Gene and Lillian Carter of Morgan will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary and Gene’s 80th birthday on Saturday, March 12 at an open house held at the Morgan LDS Rock Church. The couple was married March 10, 1950 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on October 16, 1954. Over the years they have both served in many capacities in their church. Gene was born in Ogden on March 13, 1931, the son of Leo and Mae Turner Carter. He lived in Morgan until he was eight and then moved to South Gate, California. He graduated from South Gate High School. Gene is a retired building contractor and has been involved in the community as a city councilman. He enjoys woodworking, and has won awards at both the Morgan County and Utah State Fairs. Lillian was born September 29, 1933 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Otto James and Adelaide Gilliland Christensen. She also graduated from South Gate High School. Lillian has spent most of her life caring for her husband and family. She’s always been a great cook, and her homemade pies were her specialty. For a time Lillian ran a paint and craft store in Morgan called Carter’s Colors and Crafts. She loves visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and each one is special to her. Gene and Lillian’s children and spouses are Bret and Debbie Carter, Jeff and Georgene Carter, Ray and Malinda Carter, and Tom and Linda Carter. They also have 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grand children, with two more on the way.
