Operation Graduation has committed $12,000 towards the construction of the Trojan Century Center. The announcement was made by co-chairs Denny and Lucinda Andersen following a meeting with this year’s committee. The funds have been held in a certificate of deposit for a number of years. The committee felt it was a good use of the funds and an appropriate way to support the students of Morgan High School. When completed, the Center will be the central location for the annual Operation Graduation party for departing seniors. The facility is large enough for many of the venues and will provide opportunities for additional events for graduates on that evening. Operation Graduation has been active in our community for many years. Each year a corps of junior and senior parents sponsor a night-long event for seniors. The goal of the group is to provide a wholesome and safe activity for graduates following graduation ceremonies. In related news the Morgan High School Boys’ Basketball Team will be hosting an alumni tournament on April 7, 8, and 9. The first $1,500 from the event will go to the basketball program with the balance being donated to the Morgan Education Foundation for the Center. Coach Jim Wiscombe is hoping to have 16 teams enter the contest. Trustee members Melanie Moore, Scott Duncan, Deanne Johnson, and Jennie Earl will be assisting Wiscombe in the management of the tournament. Other high school teams are also planning fundraising events for the Center. For example, the cross country team will sponsor a 5-K turkey run for the weekend of Thanksgiving with proceeds going to the Foundation for the Trojan Century Center. Chairman Kelly Wright appreciates the community rallying around the Foundation’s efforts. This is a wonderful gesture on the part of Operation Graduation, remarked Wright, the group continues to make a positive difference in the lives of our children.
