Hugh Davis was awarded the Silver Bowl Award on April 19, 2011 at the Lieutenant Governor’s Volunteer Recognition and Awards Banquet at the Hilton Hotel in Salt Lake City. Each award recipient personally received their award from the Lieutenant Governor with a photo session. Later at the main banquet there were videos on each Silver Bowl awardee as well as keynote address by Gail Miller. Awards were then given out for state volunteer service awards. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the mission of the Utah Commission on Volunteers was to improve communities through service and volunteering. We wish to congratulate Hugh Davis. Davis was born in l942 to a loving family of seven children in Tremonton, Utah. He attended Bear River High School where he lettered in baseball, basketball, football and track. He was also a member of the basketball state championship team in l959 and all-state running back for football in l959. He attended the University of Utah on a football scholarship from l960-61 and served as senior class president in l968. Hugh graduated with a master’s degree in l970 and began teaching at Morgan High School as a science teacher until l988. During that time, he coached football, track and taught driver’s education. He became Assistant Principal at Morgan High from l989-90, then Principal from 1991-2000. He was awarded Principal of the Year in l998 and was an advocate for many students and their families. He coached Little League for many years, has been a member of Morgan Lions Club for the last 25 years and has been involved in many of their volunteer service projects throughout the community such as Lions Basketball Tournament, Lion’s Santa at the Courthouse, Easter Egg Hunts and Turkey Shoots. Hugh was a part of the scholarship committee for Morgan High School from 2000-2006 and served on various senior citizen committees for finance and Christmas parties. He was Chairman of the Fair Parade for Morgan, Chili Cook-off and Children’s Games and served on the Fair Board for Morgan County. Hugh and Claudia Carrigan have been married since l968 and have four boys and seven grandchildren. A big thank you to Hugh for making his community better through service and volunteering.
