This past Saturday the Morgan County Horse 4-H Council held their first horse show of the 2011 season. Due to a concerning equine virus outbreak this spring, the horse show scheduled to be held in June was cancelled, leaving only two remaining State qualifying shows. Any Morgan County horse 4-H member hoping to qualify for the opportunity to attend State Finals in Salina this September understood the increased significance of points earned at this show. The show was held at the Fair Grounds beginning at 8:00 am. Although participation seems to have dropped somewhat from years past, all the horse 4-H youth attending were well prepared and excited to get the show season underway. Judged classes included Showmanship at Halter, Western Equitation and Bareback Equitation. Timed events were Barrels, Poles and the Scurry Race. A written test is also required for all show participants. Monies were awarded for the top three places in each event as well as trophies being awarded to the overall High Point and Reserve High Point individual in each of the 3 age divisions. Congratulations to Seniors Kami Call and Sierra Wheelwright, Intermediates McKenna Hales and Reganne Hales, and Juniors Morgan Balding and Emily Vigoren for earning the High Point and Reserve High Point awards in each of their age divisions. We are proud of each of our Morgan County Horse 4-H youth for their hard work in caring for their projects. These youth exhibited their animals very well and we are looking forward to watching them during the next upcoming show. This show will be a two day show with judged events taking place on Thursday July 28th at 6:00 pm, and the timed events being held on Friday July 29th also at 6:00pm. Overall point standings can be seen below. Come support these hard working individuals at their next show!
