Don and Joan Winn will celebrate 50 years of marriage on May 25, 2012. They met while they were students at Brigham Young University and were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1962. Don was born in Pocatello and raised in Rexburg, and Joan was born in Salt Lake and raised in East Millcreek. They raised their family of four sons and one daughter in Mountain Green. The children grew up with horses, camping, and floating the Weber River. During the summers many memories were made in St. George, Bear Lake, and Jackson Hole where they would vacation regularly. Don served for over 30 years as the counselor at Morgan High School and as the coach of the tennis team. He was nominated Coach of the Year. Joan was an elementary school teacher for 17 years in Morgan and Coalville. Both earned their masters degrees from BYU. After raising their family and retiring they served three missions for the LDS Church. Their first mission was a Church Education mission in Tucson, Arizona. Their second mission was to Washington D.C. where they were proselyting missionaries. Their third mission was to Nauvoo, Illinois, where they conducted tours and performed in musicals and plays. Don and Joan now divide their time between living in their homes in Mountain Green and St. George. They are both avid readers and enjoy traveling. Don can often be found working in his large yard or at his work bench. Joan loves indexing and taking Tai Chi and fitness classes. She even recently completed an algebra class. They are the very proud parents of Brad (Johanna) of Mountain Green, Jim (Shelly) of Rexburg, Chris (Amy) of Ogden, Rod (Megan) of Asotin, WA, and Lisa (Patrick) of Pocatello. They are the proud grandparents of 30 grandchildren who they love dearly. The entire family will gather for a day of celebration and an evening dinner to commemorate their 50th wedding anniversary.
