Effie Johnson Rich is celebrating her 90th birthday. Effie was born July 15, 1922, in Driggs, Idaho. She is youngest of six children born to John James and Mary Edith Carruth Johnson. Her family moved from Driggs to Coalville, Utah, in 1927. They settled in Morgan, Utah in 1929 where John James ran the local dry-cleaning and tailoring shop. In 1947 she married her sweetheart Kent Rich in the Logan Temple. They have five children, 10 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. She is lovingly known as Grandma Happy. Effie has always been and continues to be an active member in the community and the LDS Church. Kent and Effie served in the Ogden Temple and also completed a mission in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Effie has a lovely voice and has often shared her musical talents in the church and the community. Effie loves to swim and travel. She especially loves the Oregon Coast. Over the last 10 years Effie has knit over 2,000 preemie hats and donated them to hospitals in Utah and New York. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have all been wrapped in a knitted shawl and quilt that she has lovingly made for them. She is also known for her beautiful knitted lace. Please join Effie and her family in a celebration July 14, 2012, between 4 and 6 p.m. The open house will be held at the Porterville Church, 2700 S. Morgan Valley Drive, Porterville.
