Register for all three events; enter your largest measured trout caught at each event and the person with the largest total measurement wins an $800 Sportsman’s Warehouse gift certificate. December 15: Dead Horse Point State Park – Christmas Bird Count: Join park staff and local birders at 8 a.m., along various routes to confirm identification of all species. Passes may also be purchased at Willard Bay State Park and at the trailhead when grooming begins. TAKE A FIRST DAY HIKE IN UTAH’S STATE PARKS Utah State Parks, in partnership with America’s State Parks, is sponsoring free, guided First Day Hike Programs on New Year’s Day. Begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family. Antelope Island: Join us for a two-mile hike on Buffalo Point Loop. Hike is rated moderate, with an elevation gain of 600 feet within a mile. Dogs are welcome, but must be on leash at all times. Meet at 1:30 p.m. at Bridger Bay Campground Site #8. Hikers need to bring plenty of water, snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing. RSVP is requested. Last year over 100 hikers and 16 dogs welcomed the New Year on the island. 801-721-9569.
