Last week I wrote about Family History Expos coming to Morgan (see information below). This week there is additional information about the event. During the Genealogy and Local History Celebration next week, Holly Hansen and Arlene Eakle will be offering personal research assistance as well as teaching the tricks of the trade. Arlene H. Eakle, PhD is the President and founder of The Genealogical Institute, Inc. Dr. Eakle is a professional genealogist with more than 30 years’ experience in research, consulting, lecturing, and writing. Arlene was the editor for Ancestry’s The Source A Guidebook of American Genealogy. Arlene was a founding member of the Association of Professional Genealogists which is now a worldwide organization. Arlene will be teaching details on the jurisdictional approach to research. She is an expert in tracing families from New York, Southern U.S., British Isles, Switzerland, and parts of Germany. She claims a 96% success rate and is happy to teach you how she does it. Holly Hansen, BA, grew up in Morgan County. She and her husband, Chris, raised their 5 children here, calling Croydon home. As a child Holly started learning about family history from her grandmother. Holly was the first Director of the Morgan Family History Center and was an integral part of the planning and processes that were required to qualify for a center at that time. She graduated with an Honors B.A. in history from Weber State University. She was the editor of Everton’s Handybook for Genealogists, which details the holdings of every county in the United States of America. Holly is an expert on the types of records available to research your family history that are held on the local and county levels in the United States and how to access those records onsite, online, or at a family history center. This fall Holly launched a new company Celebrating Family History that expands the educational opportunity to more individuals closer to home with the assistance of Family History Celebration Consultants. Next week you will have the opportunity to learn more about family history research, onsite research, basic sources often overlooked in research, and how to create goals to focus your research. Celebrating Family History’s genealogy software Celebrating My Family Tree and Me is one of only three software programs that FamilySearch has given Tree Share Certification to. It is certified to read and write Family Tree data to match, compare, and modify records. It also includes required certification for sources, discussions, change history, and interaction with community members. The software works with PAF files as well. It uses the PAF file directly without requiring conversion or importing. If you have the time this is a rare opportunity to learn from front runners in the genealogical community who are dedicated to assist you to increase your genealogical research skills.
