Friday, June 13, 1st Bank locations in both Morgan and Mountain Green honored our hometown heroes. The parking lot and street corners were full as the public gathered to pay tribute our veterans, EMTs, firefighters and police officers. The afternoon kicked off with a brief introduction from 1st Bank Manager Dave Alexander, who expressed how much he appreciates all our heroes in uniform. He said, We are just bankers, not heroes, and shared his gratitude for their sacrifices. Award-winning Toastmaster and veteran Vern Kilbourn spoke to the public following Alexander’s remarks. He shared many experiences, but pointed out that there are many who offer selfless service in our community who are all heroes in his book. Kilbourn shared his experience with Manager George Francis. He spoke of a time when he was travelling with his family. The family car broke down far from Morgan and Kilbourn had no money and no means to get his family home. They were stranded. He called Francis and told him of his predicament, to which Francis responded, Get what you need and we will take care of the paperwork when you get back. Kilbourn said in his eyes, that ordinary banker was absolutely a community hero. 1st Bank would like to thank Kilbourn for his presentation as well as the veterans who showed up to present the flag ceremony including Miles Mecham, Paul Jeppson, Paul Dickson and retired Col. James Brown, who lead the group in the pledge of allegiance. Thanks also to the firemen who handed fruit snacks and candy to the children who attended, the Sheriff’s office who handed out badges, the EMTs who gave out emergency blankets and the veterans who gave the children flags. They took two hours out of their days to talk to these kids and show them around the vehicles. It was much appreciated.
