We have enjoyed a great summer of reading throughout Morgan County. With kids and adults who love to read and seek adventure through great books, it was an adventure for all of us. This year we had 3,233 prizes earned, 437,550 pages and 17,480 books read by our patrons. What an amazing summer of reading! We have many families who look forward to summer reading each year. They come in, sign up early and read the whole summer long. We have our program run for 10 weeks each summer so the patrons can earn 10 prizes if they read throughout the summer months. This year we had a lot of families who started out with us in June and were still coming in as August came around to finish off the summer. Parents who worked with their kids to set goals and encouraged them all through the summer were bringing in their kids weekly to choose a prize and get books the kids were excited to read. We really enjoyed the family feel to this summer’s program as we had parents reading right along with their kids. One mother who has five children under the age of 12 has told us the best time of her day is when she has everyone sit down to read quietly! They don’t even argue about doing it because they want to come pick out a prize when they reach their goal! Some of our teens increased their goals this year and were reading as much as 500 pages to receive a prize. We enjoyed the excited looks on their faces as they told us how many pages they had read and how many books they’d finished when they came to pick out a prize. A big thanks to all who helped us out this summer with donations and help along the way. Special thanks to Hinds Quick Stop, Debs Spicy Pie, Subway and Parkside Lanes.
