Morgan Citys contractor, Wilkinson Construction, will begin work Monday on a roadway reconstruction and minor widening project along 700 East between 300 North and Mahogany Ridge Road. Locals would know this as Old Highway Road east of Interstate 84, from the freeway exit to Mahogany Ridge Road. The project is intended to improve the roadway surface, drainage, traffic flow and safety for drivers. The project includes the following roadway improvements: ¢ Reconstruction of pavement and roadway sub-grade from 300 North (freeway ramp) to Mahogany Ridge Road ¢ Addition of 4-foot roadway shoulders within project limits ¢ Construction of new turn lanes at the 525 North intersection (leading to Young Ford, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram dealerships) ¢ Storm drain improvements between the LDS Morgan Stake Center and 650 North area ¢ Installation of drainage detention basin at the 525 North intersection During construction, traffic access will be maintained as much as possible. However, as the project progresses, motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and travel delays in the work zone and are advised to use alternate routes when possible. Drivers are advised to reduce speeds and use caution while traveling through the work zone. Initial work activities involve construction of a drainage detention basin at the 525 North intersection and storm drain installation between approximately 650 North and the LDS Church. Full pavement removal, roadway excavation, road base placement and paving are anticipated to proceed in that order by late May and continue through the end of June 2015. Substantial project completion is expected by the end of June 2015.
