The Morgan junior varsity and sophomore teams participated in the Davis Tournament Sept. 2-3. Both teams played for the championship in their divisions. The JV team won their division and the sophomore team took second place falling to Syracuse, a team they had previously beat, in the championship match.
JV Coach Julia Fisher shared, “We faced Northridge in the championship game. We had played them earlier in the week and beat them, but they made some line up adjustments and played us really well. We went to three games, but our girls came ready to play. They came back with a vengeance after they lost a set and wanted the win. They made up their minds to hunker down and do it.
“It was impressive that we beat St. Josephs, Davis, Viewmont, Freemont, Clearfield, Syracuse, Murray and Northridge. We were undefeated for the tournament,” Fisher continued.
The sophomore team was undefeated until the championship match. In pool play, Morgan defeated Syracuse in three games, but lost to them when Syracuse came back around and qualified for the championship match.
Morgan played at Layton Wednesday night and at home against Bear River Thursday evening. They face Juan Diego next Tuesday, Sept. 13, at home with games starting at 3:15 for the freshmen; 4:30 sophomores play; 5:45 JV will take to the court; and 7 p.m. starts the varsity match.
