The 4th of July show must go on

Article Date:
20 June, 2014 (All day)

With all the changes happening within the walls of the Morgan City offices the past few months, one can expect a period of transition.  There have been many misgivings about the 4th of July celebration with all these changes, but Morgan City officials are happy to announce that the show must go on.
This year’s local 4th of July celebration will kick off with a 5K run and kids’ fun run sponsored by the Morgan High School cross country team.  This is always a great way for the whole family to start the day together.  The kids always have a great time participating.
The 5K will begin at 7 a.m. at the high school and end at Riverside park.  The kids’ fun run will begin at 7:45 a.m. at Riverside park and will follow the walking trail.
And what would a Morgan 4th be without the annual pancake breakfast hosted by the Morgan High School volleyball team?  These events are great ways for the community to support their local teams and have a lot of family fun at the same time. The “pancake” breakfast is actually a full breakfast and is always delicious.  The volleyball team will be “serving” up great food from 7 - 10 a.m.
The team is also sponsoring the annual Spike Night on July 3 at 6 p.m.  Contact to sign up.
Tradition will continue with a flag ceremony at the Riverside park flag pole at 8 a.m.  The flag is presented by our local veterans.
Vendors will be open for business at the park from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.  In addition to those businesses who are coming to display their fabulous products, there are always vendors raising money for a good cause and community support is always appreciated.  If you are considering hosting a booth at the park, there is still time.  Applications can be picked up in the Morgan City offices.
Morganites will take to the streets for the annual 4th of July parade at 10 a.m.  This is always a hit.  Children and adults alike can be seen lining the streets long before any floats make their appearance.  If you are interested in participating in this year’s events, please pick up an application in the Morgan City offices. Your participation is what makes these parades so much fun.
Following the parade at 11 a.m., the K&C Fab 5 cloggers will take the stage at the park.  This time slot also marks the beginning of the kids’ games at the park which will run until 3 p.m.  Games for the whole family will include ring toss, a 3 legged race, bean bag toss, twister and more.  The city is providing face painting, train rides and a bounce castle free of charge for your little ones.
At noon there will be an all new Patriotic Spirit Walk for children 5 and under.  Part of the fun of the 4th of July is seeing all these adorable tots dressed up in their best red, white and blue fashion. This will give them a chance to strut their patriotic pride and get smiles and applause along the way.
Concessions will be available at the baseball diamond during most of these events so you can cool down and have a snack.  There will be drinks and hotdogs along with plenty of other snack items .
The day all builds up to the fantastic 4th of July fireworks that will explode in the night sky.
Bring the whole family for a fun-filled event.
