Afton turns 90 this Thursday! Afton Boyer Anderton was born April 17, 1924, in Coalville, Utah. She grew up in Hoytsville, attending North Summit schools. Her gentle and sweet nature earned her the nickname of “Sugar.” Many of her family and friends still today call her by this name! Despite her battle with polio as a teenager, Afton enjoyed a wonderful and happy childhood.
Afton married her high school sweetheart, Donald Anderton, in February of 1944 just before he left to serve in WWII. Their love and devotion to each other is an inspiration to her family. They have only been separated since Don’s death in 2011. During their marriage they lived in several places, moving to the Morgan Valley in 1971. A lifetime of activity and faithful church service includes serving two LDS missions to India and Nigeria with her loving companion.
Afton is the mother of five children, a foster daughter, 26 grandchildren and 66 great grandchildren. Her unconditional love, listening ear, wise counsel and cheerful nature (we love her giggles) have blessed all our lives.
Happy Birthday, Mom…..We Love You!
(A family celebration and open house are planned for later this summer after the return of a son and daughter-in-law serving an LDS mission in Columbia)
