Campus Connection - 24 May 2013

“Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities.  Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.”
- Gloria Steinem

Today, the Class of 2013 leaves the halls of Morgan High School and traverses the highways and byways of adulthood.  In front of them are doors of opportunity just waiting to be opened.
It has been our pleasure to serve these delightful young people for the past 13 years.  They have come a long way from the first time they walked into the elementary school with their eyes wide open with anticipation and perhaps a little consternation.
During the course of this journey, life has taught them numerous lessons in preparation for this day.  Many came from their teachers in a classroom of learning.  Others came from associating with classmates in various activities and events. Still others came from the struggles and delights of the maturation process; turning little bodies into big ones.
The class has set for their graduation theme, “Set the Precedent.”  According to the dictionary, precedent is defined as:  “an instance which may serve as a rule or example in the future.”
My advice to them, based on their theme, is perhaps best stated in the following verse by Edgar A. Guest.  We wish the best of luck to every member of the Class of 2013.  Never give up on your dreams and through your accomplishments set the precedent for future graduating classes of ole Morgan High!

Somebody said it couldn’t
be done,
But he with a chuckle
replied,
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till
he’d tried it.
So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin
On his face.  If he worried
he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done
and he did it.

Somebody scoffed, “Oh you’ll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it.”
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quit it,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousand to prophesy failure.
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it.
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it!
