Several dozen Morgan kids are a bit better at dribbling, shooting and maneuvering a basketball this week after Morgan Grace Fellowship Church hosted a community basketball camp. The camp was split into two locations with approximately 25 kids in Morgan and 30 kids shooting hoops in Mountain Green.
In addition to local teens, 24 volunteers from Texas joined in helping with running drills and giving tips. Each day the kids were separated into groups by age and ran drills and played games. Besides learning and practicing basketball skills, they also had a short lesson from the Bible. They learned about Jonah, Noah and Abraham on Monday and Tuesday of the three-day camp. On Wednesday the message was about Jesus and his love.
“It was an opportunity for kids to meet other kids they didn’t know,” Holly Pyer, who traveled with the group from Texas, said. She enjoyed being in our area and was happy to help.
Pyer was enthusiastic about the kids having an opportunity to learn a new skill.
Kids who attended all three days were given a T-shirt and their own basketball to keep practicing. The fun activity was free to the community and a great way for kids to spend their summer days.
