After hiring a facilities director, the council unanimously voted to combine five departments and eliminate three supervisor positions.
The facilities, fairgrounds, parks, roads and weeds department are now one department. After organizational changes, the supervisor positions in the weeds, road, and parks departments have been eliminated. The facilities lead position has also been eliminated.
“That’s a lot of hats,” Councilman Ned Mecham said.
In both open and executive session, the council considered the far reaching effects of their actions that removed titles, changed wages, and altered personnel files. The council also weighed creating working level positions and the ability to hire seasonal help in the future.
Councilwoman Ronda Kippen said the actions will essentially reclassify two county employees.
“We have to decide who moves to what position,” Councilman Robert Kilmer said.
Stacy Lafitte called the actions a “big change” worthy of a serious human resource meeting.
Council members seem confident in their choice of hiring Mike Waite as the new facilities director.
“I have been pretty dang impressed with what he has done so far,” Kilmer said. “the taxpayers are getting their money’s worth. Employees are being worked efficiently.”
