While most of us were off enjoying the fantastic fall weather that was enjoyed state wide over UEA weekend, the Morgan High School Lady Trojan freshman volleyball team were hard at work playing for a tournament championship in the Bulldog Classic in Provo. The Classic was a chance for the team to show how far they’ve come this year, playing some strong freshman squads from around the state. Teams from Provo, Skyview, North Summit, Juan Diego, and Judge Memorial participated.
Play started with teams playing each other once for seeding, with the Lady Trojans going undefeated and finishing in first place. They played and beat Juan Diego in the semi-finals and advanced to the championship game, where they face a strong Skyview team.
The Lady Trojans and Skyview played early in the preseason, with Skyview winning rather easily. With the Lady Trojans beating the Lady Bobcats in the round-robin phase of the tourney, the championship game promised to be a nail-biter.
After a back-and-forth first game, the Lady Trojans were able to come out on top. The second game started out close, but the Lady Trojans were able to pull away and take the championship in two games.
Coach Stephanie Stuart was pleased with the tourney win. “The girls played with a lot of heart! They played really well as a team. I am so proud of how far they’ve come this season. They improved in every aspect of the game. I think the biggest improvement was their coming together as a team.”
Team members include: Lindsey Bateman, Anna Cox, Jakelle Dickson, Camrie Duncan, Brookelyn Hurlbut, Jessica Slate, Cienna Stephens, Monet Stephens, Kayla Streadbeck, and Gwen Yorgason.
Congrats to the freshman team and coaches!
