Holcim has also been working to support the Read Today program in Morgan Elementary.  Through financial donations and volunteer reading tutors, Holcim has had a very positive impact on literacy at Morgan Elementary School.
Currently the company has 12 volunteers that work in shifts to read one-on-one with students.  The company representatives said they never have a hard time finding volunteers for this program.  They find although leaving work early is an incentive, the employees are motivated by more than that.  The Holcim employees gain satisfaction from helping students and knowing they are making a long-term difference.
Miriam Erickson who is the “Read. Graduate. Succeed.” tutor coordinator for Americorps, presented a plaque to Holcim on behalf of Morgan Elementary.  The prized plaque included the inscription “In gratitude for generous support as devoted mentors investing in the future success of our young readers.”
Erickson thanked the philanthropic company for its generous help with the Read Today program.  She related that the Read Today program has received great feedback from teachers seeing it making a big difference in students’ literacy.  The goal of the program is to help students who are behind get on or above grade level.
Thanks, Holcim, for supporting our local youth with the donations you have given to our school district along with helping our children with literacy.
