Ed Kinsey, local insurance broker from Peterson, and cofounder of, won the 220 lb. weight class at the AWPC World Power lifting Championships last weekend.

Power lifting is a form of competitive weight lifting in which a lifter competes to lift the most combined weight via 3 lifts: the squat, the bench press, and the dead lift.  Each lifter competes in his or her given weight class.

Ed put together the best performance of his career, with a squat of 821 lbs, a bench press of 534 lbs, and a dead lift of 606 lbs, for a total of 1961 lbs.  Ed competed against some of the best drug free athletes in the world, including athletes, from Russia, Bulgaria, Canada, and the USA.

The competition was held over 5 days at the Hilton in Idaho Falls, Idaho.   With very tight judging, Ed was just 26 lbs away from the world record in the squat.  Ed hopes to reach that goal within the next year.
