Fifth-grade students at Mountain Green Elementary created art projects for the wintery month of January that combined the beauty of visual art with the beauty of words.
Students used painters tape and water colors to create a landscape scene of winter birch trees at night. Next, students talked about the importance of adjectives and how words can help paint pictures in our heads.
Students then brainstormed good description words for snow, night, winter, and woods. The students were then taught the format for Haiku poems and used good description words to create Haikus to go along with their paintings.
