Last week the Olympic Ice Oval was the host to the Golden Sprint Challenge Track and Field Invitational.
Track athletes from high schools, colleges from the western states and masters competed on one of the fastest indoor running tracks in the region.
Local track standout, Chandler Weitzeil, won the 60 meter final in a personal record setting time of 7.92. She also claimed the fastest 200 meter time from Utah in 25.71 seconds.
Her performances earned her the coveted Golden Sprint Challenge - “Best Female Athlete 2014” award for the event.
The sprinters challenge capped off a successful indoor season for Chandler with 60m and 200m wins at Utah State, Weber State and BYU meets.
Chandler is a senior at Morgan High School and is a member of the girls track team coached by Jamie West. Their season starts March 7 at the Morgan High track with the Morgan time trials.
