The Morgan High School Wrestling Team has been traveling the state since the beginning of the school year to compete with outstanding competitors. As the season is coming to a close, it is apparent Morgan wrestlers are among the best in the state.
On Feb. 14 and 15 their skills were put to the test at the 3A State Wrestling Tournament. Eleven Morgan High wrestlers challenged their worthy opponents and took ninth place out of 22 schools from across the state.
Each of those 11 had to qualify at the Northern Division 3A Tournament the week prior. Almost half of those qualified wrestlers ended the event on the medals podium.
Senior Hayden Pentz (182 lbs) placed sixth; junior Jayden Pentz (120 lbs) took second place; sophomore Wyatt Ekblad (220 lbs) placed sixth; freshman Carlos Nava (113 lbs) placed fourth; and freshman Owen Pentz (126 lbs) placed fourth.
Wade Schmid, Tyson Spens, Tristian Trussell, Tyler Trantham, Wyatt Fry and Kyle Stapley also earned their way into the competition and competed at the state tournament. While their efforts didn’t earn them a medal, they performed expertly.
Coach Dustin Rock was pleased at the culmination of this wrestling season. He looks forward to next year as this group of wrestlers has continued to improve each match.
With practice and experience, they are headed to Super State to compete against wrestlers from all divisions. The competition will be held Feb. 22 at the Maverik Center.
Congratulations on a successful season and good luck to MHS wrestlers!
