Morgan Beta Literary Club holds meeting

Article Date:
24 May, 2013 (All day)

The Morgan Beta Literary Club held their last meeting at the Morgan Senior Center.
Vice President Betty Jan Murphy conducted the meeting and welcomed everyone.  The first item of business was the election of next year’s officers.  Betty Jan Murphy will be the new president, Karen Eddington the new vice president, Anna Louse Medaris the new secretary, Evelyn Palmer the new assistant secretary, and Mary Bowers and Vicki Orr as the new as historian/literary advisors.
The club voted to donate funds to the Morgan Valley Community Orchestra and to purchase some books for the Morgan County Library.
Anna Louise Medaris was our book reviewer and she chose the book “The Last Lecture,” by Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, with Jeffrey Zaslow, a columnist for the Wall Street Journal.  When Randy Pausch was asked to give a lecture, he didn’t imagine it as his last, since recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer.  But the lecture he gave “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams”wasn’t about dying.  It was about living.  He combined the humor, inspiration and intelligence that made his lecture such a phenomenon.  Anna Louise shared many of his thoughts and treasured moments with his family.  It was a beautiful review.
The evening concluded with visiting and a potluck lunch.  Flowers and bird houses decorated the tables. Their next meeting will be held on Oct. 3, 2013.
If you are  interested in joining, please call Betty Jan Murphy (801) 829-0580 or Karen Eddington (801) 829-3464.
