Saturday, Oct. 27, the Morgan High School volleyball team took third place in the 3A volleyball state championships at the UCCU Events Center in Orem.
The team won three games against Park City, defeated Dixie in five games, lost to Snow Canyon in three and defeated Delta in four games.  Coach Liz Wiscombe commented on how proud she is of the team this season.  “We had a great group of seniors this year.  They really came together and were great examples for the incoming freshman.”  Team member Katie Peterson said that even after their loss, they didn’t get frazzled like they could have.  The team came back and fought hard.  “It was the coolest feeling on the court.  You could just feel how much we all love the game.”
The team went into the championships undefeated as the top team in Region 11 and although they did not win state this year, Wiscombe was still incredibly proud of her team’s performance.  “You can’t take state every year, but this team gave it their all.”  Senior player Cassidee Lisch was proud of the way they came back and played hard after their loss and commented on how much fun they had in the second round with Dixie.
“We all played so hard.  It was really intense and we were working so well together as a team,” said Aspen Thomson.  There was an all around great feeling among the team members about the sportsmanship that was felt during this taxing competition.
This is the last time that the five seniors went onto the court in their Morgan uniforms.  Rachel Kuns remembers the bus rides.  “Those times on the bus are the times when we really got close.  We really became great friends.”   She said that she felt no fear going into their last games.  Even after the loss they just all knew what they had to do.  “We just regrouped and got it done,” commented Amanda Porter.  Kuns continued, “There were some really crucial points in the game where we really could have freaked out, but we just came together as a team.”
