A Mountain Green resident made his first appearance in Second District Court June 5 in front of Judge Noel S. Hyde facing charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
Robert Edwin Ferlin, 69, allegedly began abusing a minor female family member about 10 years ago and continued for about eight years.  According to police records, Ferlin made her touch him inappropriately and also showed her pornography.  The abuse was disclosed Feb. 20, 2013.
According to police reports, both Ferlin and the minor female agreed that the two often slept in the same bed when she was young.  Ferlin also admitted to accidentally clicking on an Internet link that brought up several pornographic pop ups when the female family member was in the room. He said he made efforts to block the screen from her view.
Ferlin told police the female family member had become increasingly hostile with his wife before her recent death. He and his wife found it necessary to take the female to a residential youth juvenile justice service center.
A second family member accused Ferlin of sexual abuse in 2011, but that case was later dismissed. Ferlin told police he believed family members had made up the recent allegations because they “had it out for him.”
He was booked into Weber County Jail on June 4, 2013, on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
