Morgan Valley Memories for the Week of December 24

1930
“A Full House,” the student body play of the Morgan County High School was presented to a full house last Wednesday evening.
The Morgan Community Christmas Tree Program was a huge success last Saturday.
Miss Leone Compton, a student of Weber College, is home for the holidays.
Miss Elizabeth Brimley, who is attending school in Brigham City, is at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Brimley for the holiday weeks.
Miss May Chapin and Miss Ida Parkinson, who are attending school in Salt Lake City, are home for the holidays.
Lovinia Francis and Jay Waldron, students of the Utah Agricultural College at Logan, Isabelle Littlefield, Grant Kearns and Jay London are home for the next two weeks.
Last Friday afternoon, the first edition of “The Trojan Trumpet,” official magazine of the Morgan County High School, was delivered to the students.
1935
Mrs. Rachel Twila Richins Wood, 30, of Promotory died at a Brigham City hospital Sunday morning of pneumonia following childbirth.
Marian Terry, Margaret Williams, Alberta Turner, Melba Heiner, Hazel Chapin, Sidney Heiner, Ralph Davies, Woodrow Giles, Melvin and Harvey Rich, students at Utah State Agricultural College, are home for the holiday.
Marden Clark, Max and Dean White, Otis Burton and Ruth Giles, students at Brigham Young University, are home for the holidays.
Sam Burton is spending the holidays at the home of his mother, Mrs. Thomas Burton.
Miss Valentine Parkinson of Ogden spent the Christmas holidays at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Parkinson.
Miss Eva Rose of Salt Lake City is home for the holidays.
Miss Bessie Brough of Murray is home for the holidays.
Miss Isabelle Littlefield of Richfield will spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Littlefield of Morgan.
Marcell Anderson arrived Saturday from California to spend the holidays with his mother, Mrs. J. A. Anderson
Mrs. J. H. Clayton returned to her home here Wednesday after a two week visit with relatives in Salt Lake City.
1940
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Rich were conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Richville LDS Ward Chapel.
Jay Rich from McClellan Field, Sacramento, CA, spent Christmas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Rich.
Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Giles and family, of Garfield, and Miss Thelma Rich, of Salt Lake City, spent Christmas at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Rich
Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Olsen and family and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne DeGrow and family, of Salt Lake City, spent Christmas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Porter.
Orson Robinson Jr. is spending the Christmas holidays with is parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orson Robison.
Edison Rose, son of Stanley Rose, is ill at this time.
Mr. Horace Rose, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rose of Murray, Miss Eva Rose of Brigham and Sterling Rose, who is attending school at the Agricultural College, spent Christmas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rose.
Delore Rich, son and Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Rich, is ill at this time.
Roland Robison of Afton, WY is visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Farnsworth.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rounds of Ogden spent Sunday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Francis.
Miss Lula Jean Heiner of Ogden is spending the Christmas holidays at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Ulrich.
Darrell and Clinton Fry, from McClellan Field, Sacramento, CA, spent Christmas with their father, Joe Fry, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fry.
Mrs. Sadie cook, who has been seriously ill, is much improved.
Mrs. Josie Saylor of Salt Lake City spent the Christmas holidays at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Clayton.
Dr. Grant Kearns and Mrs. Kearns are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Kearns of Morgan and Ms. James Taggart of Ogden.
1945
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Francis and children, Cowley, W”Y, have returned home after a few days’ visit with Mr. Francis’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Francis.
1950
Mrs. Flora K. Rich is spending the holidays at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maude Geary in Logan.
Paul Dickson left Salt Lake City Wednesday for Billings, MT where he will serve as an LDS missionary.
Mr. and Mrs. Delore Rich have moved into the home formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Waldron.
Mr. and Mrs. Burtus Young and children of Ogden visited with their folks, Mr. and Mrs. John Young, Sunday.
The New Morgan Theatre will be showing “Tea for Two” with Doris Day and Gordon MacRae on December 24 and 25.
1985
Mr. S. Claus has announced he will make a pre-Christmas visit to the Morgan City and County building December 21 at 1 p.m.
Mr. John R. (Jay) Hopkin will be honored on the occasion of his 80th birthday at an open house given by his children at his daughter, Deborah Evans, home.
Gary and Sandie Phillips are happy to announce the birth of a baby boy on December 7, 1985.
1990
North Pole - Santa expected to arrive by sleigh this Christmas.  Mother Nature has cooperated with the Christmas Express Weather Bureau and a heavy blanket of snow has fallen across Morgan County.
Kale Carter, 4 year-old son of Kent and Cindy Carter, was involved in a serious sleigh riding accident on Monday afternoon.  Surgery was performed Monday night and he is improving.
Lottie Mecham Martin, 69, died Tuesday at a local nursing home.
Austin Fredrick Winchester, 81, of Mountain Green died December 20, 1990 at St. Benedicts Hospital in Ogden.
1995
Santa Claus is planning to make his magic visit once again to Morgan sometime between the hours of 11:00 p.m. December 24 and 4:00 a.m. December 25.
John R. (Jay) Hopkin  will be honored on his 90th birthday with an open house at the Morgan City and County building December 23, 1995.
The Morgan High cheerleaders took the first placed trophy in the 2A-3A Varsity Mount Division at the Utah state cheerleading championship competition held at the University of Utah Hunstman Center.,
2000
Marie Gibson Turner, 87, died Sunday, December 17, 2000 at her home in Morgan.
Helen Brown Anderson Mecham, 91, passed away at home, Wednesday, December 13, 2000 with her loving family at her side.
Roberta Marie (Bobbi) Dostaler, 56, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2000 in South Ogden, after a valiant struggle with cancer.
Utah resorts happily buried in record-breaking snowfall.  Depths at local resorts are Nordic Valley, 24”; Powder Mountain, 68”; and Snowbasin Resort, 62”;.
Kyle Thackeray, 17, spreads his Christmas decorating skills throughout the county.
