Morgan Valley Drive construction project on hold
Weather has delayed the completion of the Morgan Valley Drive road construction project.
“Parsons didn’t make the deadline,” Morgan County Councilman Robert Kilmer said.  “Lots needs to be finished.”
The punch list yet to be completed includes grinding, sealing, chip sealing, and grading.  Kilmer said the work likely won’t be completed until June of 2014.
Godfrey identifies businesses without licenses
Using a proprietary system, the city and county’s economic development consultant Better City has identified as many as 300 businesses within the county that are not properly licensed.  That could equate to as much as $23,000 in lost revenue between both the city and county, consultant Matthew Godfrey said.
“They need to pay their fair share,” Godfrey said.  “A lot of people probably don’t know it is illegal (to operate a business without a license).”
Godfrey said he could assist the county and city in sending out “soft” letters welcoming the businesses, and pointing out the proper way of securing a business license.  His company would be paid for their efforts out of any “successful” license fees are collected.
