Our sweet, loving wife and mother Fern Porter Carter, 91, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Family Tree Assisted Living Center in Morgan, Utah. She was born in Porterville, Utah on April 6, 1921 to Franklin Sylvanus Porter and Emma Mae Durrant. She attended school in Porterville and Morgan.
She married Ralph S. Carter on December 13, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have 9 children, Paul Carter (Vanna), Vaughn Carter (Carolee), Shirley Dearden (Carl), Frank Carter (Carla), Julia Johnson (Paul), Elaine Barton (Bob) RaNae Stevenson (Randy), Lee Carter (Jeannie) and Lisa Kelly (Michael), 44 grandchildren, 99 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. Mom and Dad were married for 72 wonderful years. They loved each other devotedly and we all knew it. Thank you for your example of love and courtship for all of us.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and worked in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society. She was a dedicated visiting teacher, and did extraction work for many years. Fern worked for the Morgan County Recorder’s Office and the Morgan County Library. Fern served a mission in Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania, with her husband Ralph, and created a great example for all of her children and grandchildren by her selfless service and love of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Fern was a wonderful mother and grandmother. All who knew her felt loved. She was able to remember the name of each of her grandchildren as long as she lived. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Linden and Keith Porter, two sisters, Nona Mikesell and Thelma White, and one great, great granddaughter, Hadlee Jane Ashcroft.
The family wishes to express special thanks to all of the staff at Family Tree Living Center and Hospice of Northern Utah, who gave Mom compassionate and loving care. She loved all of her friends there. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
