Mayor Jim Egbert and the Morgan City Council have been working with a developer and making steady progress on approval of the hotel planned for construction on Commercial Street.
Since the process has taken longer than originally anticipated, the council recently extended the time frame to facilitate the hotel.
The developer has secured an agreement for the land on which the hotel will be built and has approval from Marriott to construct a Fairfield Inn.  He is now working on obtaining the final financing.
Groundbreaking for the establishment is expected to take place before May 1, hotel completion is to happen before Nov. 1, and the grand opening must occur by Dec. 1.
The project is moving forward steadily and the city remains confident that a hotel is in the near future for Commercial Street.
The hotel will allow the city to host events not possible before, and the location on Commercial Street will continue the progress of the city to rebuild the area and attract and retain businesses.
Marriott International spans 85 years of history and boasts 3,700 hotels in 72 locations.
