Three residents have applied to fill the vacancy on the Morgan County Council representing District 5. Jared Andersen, James Brown, and Austin Turner applied for the position left vacant after Councilman Don Mathews’ death.
Along with Mathews, Turner applied to fill Councilman David Gardiner’s vacancy in 2010. Mathews was appointed to that position and filled it until the November 2010 election, when he won the seat as the incumbent in an election against Turner.
The council plans to appoint their newest member at their Jan. 8 meeting. He will be sworn in with three other council members at the Jan. 8 meeting.
Daryl Ballantyne, representing District 4; Richard Logan Wilde, representing the county at-large; and Robert Kilmber, representing District 3 will be sworn in after running unopposed races in November.
Councilman Howard Hansen, District 3, and Councilwoman Ronda Kippen, District 4, will be leaving the council. Kilmer previously filled the at-large council seat.
