Trojans take down region champs

After loading up against top 3A, 4A and 5A teams in pre-season, the Trojans varsity baseball team started region play with a 2-1 record, including a dramatic 6-5 win against last year’s region champs and baseball powerhouse Park City, on April 14.
The Miners came into the game with a 13-4 record, but couldn’t solve ace Tanner Johnson.  The Trojans’ starting pitcher scattered seven hits over six innings and gave up just one earned run with pinpoint control.
On offense, Corban Lunt reached base three times, Tyson Lindley had a key two-strike RBI single and Kade Carrigan hit a first-inning home run and added a sixth-inning RBI single.
In the top of the seventh, with bases loaded, no outs, and the tying run on first base, freshman Conley Breshears was called on to close the game.  Breshears walked the first batter, then induced a one-hop grounder to Johnson, who stepped on third and threw to first-baseman Tristan Clemens to complete the double play.
Right-fielder Nick Porter then made a sensational catch on a foul ball hit down the line to secure the win.  The victory marked the first time the Trojans have defeated the Miners in eight years.
