11 January, 2013 (All day)

The Morgan High School wrestling team has been busy since school resumed after Christmas break.
On Thursday, Jan. 3, Morgan hosted Stansbury High School. It was a hard-fought battle but Stansbury managed to beat Morgan 39-30.
Thomas Ericson, Seth Snyder, and Wyatt Ekblad on varsity, as well as Bridger Snyder and Caleb Richins on junior varsity, all pinned their opponents. Jaden Pentz beat Gavin Skogg by a tech fall 15-0.
The wrestlers continued their season traveling to Skyview High in Smithfield on Jan. 4-5 for the Bobcat Brawl. Ryder Green wrestled an exciting match with Jeff Adams from Bountiful. He was awarded a stalling point in the last 10 seconds of the match, tying the score. He held on, keeping the score tied through two overtimes. In the third and last overtime he managed an escape and takedown and then held on to win 7-4.
Tyson Spens wrestled Peter Burgoyne from Viewmont High School. He trailed for nearly three rounds, up until the last 30 seconds when he got a reverse and takedown, beating the Viewmont wrestler by one point. Wyatt Ekblad pinned his opponent from Logan, and Thomas Ericson pinned his opponents from Skyview and Fremont, and won four matches.
On Wednesday, Jan. 9, Morgan hosted Wasatch High School. Wasatch was as good as they always have been and beat Morgan 61-6. It was not a complete blowout like they wanted with Jaden Pentz pinning Braiden Parker.
On Thursday, Jan. 10, Morgan hosted Bear River on senior night. Thomas Ericson, Porter Green, and Mckinlee Breashears were our honored seniors. Jaden Pentz won in a major decision 14-2 over Jeremy Zollinger, and Tyson Spens won in a very exciting sudden victory over Weston Kolste 6-4.  Despite losing 65-7, it was an awesome senior night. We would like to thank all of the loyal fans that continue to support the Morgan wrestling team.
Morgan wrestlers will be travelling to Tooele High on Thursday, Jan. 17, and Ogden High on Thursday, Jan. 24. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. for varsity and 6 p.m. for junior varsity. Then they will travel to the Delta Duals on Friday, Jan. 25, and Saturday, Jan. 26, before the region meet at Bear River on Feb. 1- 2.
