If you have ever been watching General Conference or any other performance of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and thought you saw a familiar face, you might be right.  Jason Nelson of Morgan has been blessing the world with his vocal talents since 2011, when he began his service in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Celebrating their 55th  wedding  anniversary are Allen and LueCree Carrigan of Morgan.  They were married on May 16, 1959, in Morgan. They will celebrate by taking a trip to Harrisburg, Oregon, to visit LueCree’ s sister and brother-in-law.

Four Morgan County sheriff deputies were involved in a high speed chase Friday, May 9, in speeds that reached up to 110 miles per hour.  While a high speed chase on Interstate 84 through Morgan County is not unusual, the fact that four deputies were on duty to handle it was, said Deputy Scott Peay.

Seven hundred and twenty-three children, from kindergarten to fifth grade, proved that kids can do big things, especially when working together.  The students of Morgan Elementary School came together with a common goal of earning money for the American Cancer Society through a fun day called Relay Recess.  The school raised over $2,030.  This is a huge accomplishment.

Ruth Hill taught English and Literature in the Morgan School District from 1953 to 1965.  She started influencing the future of Morgan students in the seventh grade and continued her desire to improve grammar and love for literature until graduation.  Her passion for literature was contagious.  She had zero tolerance for wasting time and challenged students to develop a love for literary masters.

Every other year, the Morgan High School band gets to embark on a journey outside of their normal school routine.  This year, their adventure took them to Washington D.C.

Through a generous grant from Holcim, Morgan Elementary was able to realize a goal they have had for several years.  Principal Wolff, along with the community council, staff, and others have had a vision to host a STEM night for some time and with the money from Holcim, they were able to welcome students and their families to an evening of fun learning on May 2.

Two MHS athletes have signed scholarships to play at the collegiate level.  Kade Carrigan will play baseball at Redlands Community College in Oklahoma.

The Trojans baseball team defeated Union 9-4 on May 6 to advance to the inter-region playoffs. Tristan Clemens scattered five hits while pitching a complete game.

Drivers eastbound on Interstate 84 near the mouth of Weber Canyon in Morgan County will encounter temporary right-lane closures in the coming months while Questar Pipeline Company (QPC) replaces a section of high-pressure natural gas pipeline on a steep hillside above the highway.

John Keith Trussell, 52, of St. Paul, Nebraska, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island, Nebraska, of multiple sclerosis.

Tuesday, May 6, crowds gathered around railroad tracks in Morgan County waiting for “Big Boy.” This mammoth size steam engine was built in 1941 and weighs in at a whopping 1.2 million pounds.

On Saturday, May 3 the Weber Basin Anglers chapter from Trout Unlimited hosted a Rubbish Round-up.  13 volunteers showed up to help.  These volunteers included Morgan County residents as well as individuals from Hill Air Force Base, River Restoration and Trout Unlimited.

Dietrich Streuber, a student at Morgan High, will participate in the 2014 U.S. Naval Academy Summer Seminar program. The U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) invited a select group of approximately 2,550 young men and women from around the nation and abroad to attend the Naval Academy Summer Seminar program this year.

Gaylene Adams was born in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She is the daughter of a mother who was primarily a homemaker and a father who was a transportation supervisor at Hill Air Force Base as well as a farmer.  Gaylene is number three in a family of four children.  She spent her childhood living in Morgan County, first in Peterson and then on a farm in Porterville.  Throughout her childhood, Gaylene’s parents inspired an appreciation of hard work that continues to be evident in her work ethic to this day.

The annual Utah State FFA CDE contests were held April 22 and 23, 2014 in Logan, Utah.  Our local Morgan FFA chapter sent out four teams to compete in the following areas: Livestock Evaluation, Vet Science, Poultry Evaluation, and Meat Evaluation.

The students of Morgan Elementary School recently competed in the annual Inspirations contest.  Pupils from kindergarten through fifth grade were eligible to participate in the art competition.

Come celebrate spring at Morgan Community Choir’s 15th annual spring concert to be held Monday, May 12 at 7 p.m. in the Morgan High School auditorium.  The choir sings old familiar favorites like selections from “The Sound of Music,” “American Folk Suite,” “The Prayer” and the beautiful “Homeland” set to the music of Gustav Holst.  Sacred hymns, a famous newer Broadway tune and even a vocal version of the “William Tell Overture” are part of the fun too.

On Saturday, May 24 EAA Chapter 58 from Ogden, Utah will be giving free airplane rides to 30 youth between the ages of 8 and 17.  The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Morgan Airport.  A parent or guardian will be required to complete a registration form prior to the flight.

Morgan Elementary School first, second and third grade students enjoyed an in-house fieldtrip from GoPlanetarium on Friday, April 18. Each class went into an inflatable dome that was 22 feet in diameter to view the presentation.

Karen Straw was born in Ogden, Utah, and spent her childhood living in Morgan.  She is the daughter of a father who was an engineer for the Utah Department of Transportation and a mother who worked at the First National Bank of Morgan.  Karen is the middle child in a family of three children, with an older brother and younger sister.  As a daughter, wife and mother, Karen values the connection and bond family provides.  She is a model of this each day and continues as a constant presence in the day-to-day lives of her parents, children and grandchildren.

All year, the Sterling Scholars have been preparing for the culminating event which took place this Tuesday at Morgan High School.  Sterling Scholars compete against students from other schools in their respective categories. They are judged on their scholarship, leadership and citizenship.

Morgan Middle School took 10 seventh graders and 10 eighth graders to the state math competition last month and the results are back.  One student has shown great courage this eighth grade year and he received a high honor.

Many people heading to the Easter egg hunts on Saturday probably wondered what giant event was going on at the high school. Morgan had been preparing all week to host track and field athletes from 17 different schools in the 2014 Morgan Pocket Change Invitational. The preparation paid off in what turned out to be a very well organized, well run meet.
