    After nearly 25 years on Commercial Street, Morgan Academy of Dance will be changing things up and moving to a new location, 225 East 125 North, next to Riverside Park.  The dance academy has been a part of Morgan for over 40 years.  In that time the dance studio has had plenty of homes.

Saturday, September 15th, business as usual at Morgan ‘s Farmers Market until the produce vendors said they would not be back next week, because they had no more produce to sell.

    The Morgan County Library is a great place for people to expand their minds, encourage creativity and explore places.  This kind of knowledge and growth should not be limited to the youth or the more mature, everyone should take advantage of this remarkable resource.

  • Farmer’s market returns to Morgan (community)

    Creative and ambitious individuals that have a passion for what they do were found in abundance at this week’s Morgan farmer’s market. Each vendor has a unique story and purpose for being involved.
    One such vendor is Davis Produce. Davis Produce offers a variety of fresh grown produce from their greenhouse. Tina Davis, owner, is glad to be back for another year and says she enjoys the people of Morgan.
    Handcrafted and homemade items from Carol Marshall included parchment crafted book markers designed with calligraphy ink and paint on a type of paper known as velum. Marshall has done this craft for over 10 years and she enjoys it the most. Recently retired, she found herself not content. To broaden her interests, she discovered craft books and learned how to make bracelets and earrings.

    The Morgan Academy of Dance and Tumbling presented their students from the three studios, in three shows, at one place: Morgan High School Auditorium. The three studios are located in Morgan, Mountain Green, and Coalville.

  • Fatal crash takes life of Morgan woman (community, lifeinbalance)

    A fatal crash near Roy and Sunset claimed the life of Eva A. Trump of Morgan. Witnesses said her vehicle was traveling on Interstate 15, darting in and out of traffic.  The Dodge Neon she was driving had drifted into a construction area, where she over corrected, crossed the median, dropped off the embankment, and went down the hill to the bottom.  The car then went under a cable barrier and into oncoming traffic near mile marker 338 and  collided with a semi-trailer.

    There are new items in the Morgan County Library display case, it’s Morgan High School Student Art. This colorful variety of art work will be displayed throughout the month of March. The students participating in this art display range from 10th to 12th grade.

    This year, each month a Junior or Senior Art Student from Morgan High School will display their art work in the local art gallery. Amy Everhart, gallery director explained, “the students can sign up in their high school art class to have their work displayed for a month.”

    It was a one day event at Barber Brothers in Morgan, but what a difference a day makes. Beautiful blue skies for the discounted helicopter ride with Santa and though it was cold to bring in the car for an free oil change, the only thing ask of you to donate some food or a toy. This event was held last Saturday, December 17th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Reality Town Comes to Morgan High (School, schoolarticles)

     

    “Reality Town” came to Morgan High School on December 6th. Reality Town is a 2 to 3 hour activity, similar to the board game “Life”, the entire 10th grade participated in this annual event, which has been presented to the students and volunteers since 2002,said Emily Rose, Work Based Learning Coordinator. She said, “I think it went really well and the students gained a lot from this experience, and also learned a lot from it.”

    The students filled out an “Reality Town Employment Application” that  requires to be completely filled in with following information: personal information; education; employment; references; talents and hobbies, and employment desired. The applications are sent to R.E.A.L. LLC in Lehi, Utah (founders of this program) for processing. The scenarios that are assigned to each student is taken from the job application, but is mainly based on gender and (in years past ) grade point average(GPA). The GPA was not included this year on the application. Each scenario is different as is each student, Mrs Rose feels that these scenarios are scaled fairly with the GPA not a factor.

    “Veterans, we are free because you made a sacrifice, thanks!” was on the marquee,  to reminds us why we honor them. Morgan Middle School presented their annual Veterans Day Assembly, a tradition of honoring veterans that has continued over the past ten years.

    Entering Pocket Change in November, you’ll find a few leftover Autumn and Thanksgiving decorations, party supplies and knick-knacks; Christmas colors, decorations, a tree that displays some of the ornaments and items that are so festive, you would think you were in Santa’s workshop. Friendly store clerks that help you find what you need whether its office supplies or something for the kitchen. There is also warm socks, and gloves from time to time.

    Morgan City will again be hosting Ol’ Time Christmas on Commercial Street.  There will be activities and fun for all.  There will be a raffle for Sub for Santa.  Tickets can be earned by bringing a new unwrapped toy.  The grand prize is a 42” Zenith Plasma T.V.

  • Cub Scout Pack Visits City Building (community, lifeinbalance)

     

    On Tuesday evening. Cub scout pack 181 held their monthly pack meeting.  This month’s theme was citizenship. The tour was conducted by Mayor Jim Egbert. They toured the city offices and council room and the Morgan County food pantry. The tour helps towards the scouts earning their Citizenship Award, explained parent, Annette Mortensen.  Afterwards they returned to the church and discussed what they had learned.

    Flyers are being distributed.... collection boxes placed..... sounds like a food drive, but more specific than the regular food drive. Ryan Millburn’s Eagle Scout Project is to help provide Thanksgiving for some Morgan County families. Ryan is working with Morgan County Food Pantry to accomplish this goal.

    Achievement Night recognized both 4-H club members and leaders for their hard work and dedication for 2010-2011 period held on October 6th, at the Morgan County Courthouse Auditorium.

  • MHS Cross Country Team (Sports)

    At the St. George Marathon, on October 1st, Rosy Lee, Morgan High School Cross Country/Track Coach finished first in the Women’s Division with the winning time: 2:43:59 (2 hrs,43 mins,59 secs), beating her previous record from 1999 of time: 2:44:52 by 53 seconds.

  • Community Spotlight - Jay and Janet Thomson (community, lifeinbalance)

     

    “If there’s a will there’s a way,” is the Thomsons’ parting words, or motto, after sharing their story of love and life. They got in Janet’s 1931 Ford Model A (a birthday present from Jay) and drove off to get ready for a dinner engagement.

     I met them at their hangar at the Morgan County Airport. Inside, Janet introduced “these are Jay’s toys,” which consists of a motorcycle; a restored 1946 Fairchild airplane; a well polished motor boat; and a small plane for grandchildren to pretend to fly. A work area for his tools to keep the “toys” in running order, and for convenience, a sitting area with a 1927 antique refrigerator nearby with cold drinks and a cookie jar that resembles a fisherman’s basket, full of Ginger Snap cookies, on the coffee table.

  • Judge London Retires After Ten Years (community, lifeinbalance)

    Rick London and Lynne Rich were classmates in Morgan schools, they dated in high school and both graduated with the class of 1961. Rick prepared to be a missionary and Lynne went off to college at Utah State University. He returned from serving his mission in March 1965. She graduated from Utah State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Education, in June 1965. They were married in June 1966. Jokingly, Rick added “she supported me while I went to school.”

  • Miss Rodeo Utah Visits Morgan (Sports)

    Morgan had a special treat at the County Fair.  Jamie Udell, Miss Rodeo Utah 2011 visited on Friday, August 5th. She spent time meeting those at the fair as well as participating in the opening ceremony at the rodeo on Friday night.  When Udell was asked how she enjoyed her visit, she shared, “I didn’t just enjoy it, I loved it!”

  • 4-H Horse Riding Club Has Heart (community, lifeinbalance)

    “To make the best better”, is the 4-H motto. It’s also the feeling conveyed when talking with Jessie Franich about her 4-H Horse riding Club. Jessie has been a 4-H leader with the riding club “The Wet Blankets” since 1980. How the name came to be, she remembers, “When the kids were working on a name for the club, they thought when a horse works hard the blanket gets wet. Wet blankets make good horses.”

    “We had over 100 people come. I thought was quite an impressive turnout,” stated artist and gallery owner, Amy Everhart. The Grand Opening of the Rocky Mountain Fine Art Gallery on May 20th received a favorable response by art lovers and curiosity seekers. “To the best of my knowledge, this is the first established art gallery in Morgan County,” said Morgan County Historian, Linda Smith.
