More than 200 people crowded the Morgan County Courthouse auditorium during a public hearing Aug. 14 to amend the county’s future land map in the East Canyon area to eventually make way for a new 2,980-acre resort.  The landowners asked the planning commission to consider re-designating 2,980 acres currently designated natural resources and recreation to master planned community.
At the Aug. 14 meeting, many residents asked for specifics, wanting to know exactly what the land owners planned to do with the 3,000 acres.  That Thursday, they were tight-lipped.  However, they laid out grand plans during the July 10 meeting a month earlier.

The last few months have brought many changes to the Morgan City Council.  The resignation of Mayor Jim Egbert resulted in bringing Morgan City their new mayor, Ray Little.  The domino effect of Little’s appointment to the mayoral seat was that his council seat was left vacant.

 The Sterling Scholar nominees from North Summit High School and Morgan High School were recognized and honored on March 24, 2014, at the ninth annual Sterling Scholar Recognition Banquet at the Spring Chicken Inn, Morgan.  After each name was read, Holcim (US) Inc. Plant Manager David E. Fletcher presented them with a certificate, as well as a copy of the book by Sean Covey, “The Habits of Highly Effective Teens” as a token of appreciation and remembrance of this evening.

Judging on the number of candidates filing for a position on local and state school boards, education seems to be a hot topic in Morgan County.  
Of the 30 Morgan County residents who filed for a government office last week, almost half of them were for a seat on either the Morgan County School Board or Utah State School Board District 1.

Of the 30 Morgan County residents who filed for a government office last week, almost half of them were for a seat on either the Morgan County School Board or Utah State School Board District 1.
Of the 14 positions candidates filed for in Morgan County, the only races that will go to a June 24 primary election are for District 2 and 4 on the Morgan County School Board.

Six candidates will find themselves involved in the primary election for seats on the Morgan County School Board. At the same time, six other county residents who filed as candidates for one of the 14 local positions up for grabs will run unopposed in their campaigns.
Incumbent Bruce A. Galbraith will join opponents Roland Haslam and Ted W. Taylor in the primary election for the four-year District 2 Morgan School Board. Incumbent Mark A. Farmer will face opponents Anna Phelps and Alan Vesper in a primary election for the four-year District 4 Morgan School Board seat.

Six candidates will find themselves involved in the primary election for seats on the Morgan County School Board. At the same time, six other county residents who filed as candidates for one of the 14 local positions up for grabs will run unopposed in their campaigns.

On Jan. 16, Morgan High School FFA students competed in the annual Area Speaking Contests.  The contests consist of parliamentary procedures, extemporaneous speaking, prepared speech and the FFA Creed.

Anyone who owns a home, walks across a bridge or enjoys the protection of our laws here in Morgan County should take a walk in Riverside Park.  There in the warming October sun they should use their fingers to trace over the names of Samuel and Esther Francis that were recently inscribed on a monument dedicated to our forbears by the Sons of the Utah Pioneers.  This couple has been one of the center stones of the foundation upon which we all have laid our lives.

Rhodes was bishop of the Milton Ward, the Morgan Utah Stake was granted permission on Jan. 19, 1959, to build a new ward building in Milton.  Ward members were asked to contribute one-half of the cost of the building and labor to supplement the labor supplied by building missionaries.

The Morgan County Council voted to approve a text amendment that would allow the Morgan County Planning and Building Department services to clear five inactive applications from their books.

The amendment would allow staff to procedurally deny applications after six months of inactivity.

The Northeastern Utah Region Sterling Scholars competition was held Monday, April 15, 2013, at Wasatch High School in Heber City.  This region consists of students from Altamont, Duchesne, Dugway, Grantsville, Morgan, North Summit, Park City, Rich, South Summit, Tabiona, Uintah, Union, Wasatch and Wendover high schools.

It was standing room only Tuesday when the Morgan City Planning Commission unanimously denied a conditional use permit for a residential group home.  More than 90 residents crowded the council chambers, where Alpha Counseling and Treatment presented plans for a group home for “disabled youth suffering from autism, Asperger’s syndrome and similar challenges” at 535 Derrick Circle.

In both of Morgan’s only contested local races, the incumbents came out on top—so far.  In the Morgan County School Board Precinct 1 race, Jody V. Hipwell beat out opponent Lydia Nuttall by just 23 votes.  Although the final count Tuesday was 418 to 395, county officials are waiting until Nov. 20 to count all absentee and provisional ballots.  Precinct 1 has 28 provisional ballots and 12 absentee ballots, or 40 votes that could still make a difference.

One of the entrants that earned a best in show award at Morgan City’s Cruz’n Classics Car Show almost didn’t enter.  Duane Carpenter, owner of a cherry red 1959 Ford Edsel Convertible, saw a brochure for the car show the night before in Wyoming.  He hurried to make it to Morgan’s Riverside Park from Evanston on Saturday.

Austin Manning is a happy little boy.  His smiles bring happiness to his older brother, Logan, and his parents, David and Michelle Manning.  On Nov. 2, 2012, Austin will undergo a surgery that will allow him to hear his family tell him how much they love him.
