Morgan resident Natalie Quinlan, 40, had recently obtained her motorcycle driver’s license and her own motorcycle.  She had always wanted her own motorcycle, and had been working up the gumption and skill to ride on Interstate 84.

After a six-year hiatus, the demolition derby came back to Morgan County. Historically, Morgan has had a rich tradition of hosting demolition derbies. Although the derby this year started out small, we were fortunate to be able to bring it back. Organizers are hopeful that last Thursday’s event will have increased interest not only from spectators, but also for future drivers who want to test their driving skills in the arena. Hopefully this was the first of many, and through the years it will be able to grow.

You will be moving along at about 44 feet per second. You then need about 47 feet to bring the vehicle to a safe stop at 30 MPH. This, combined with your reaction time will add about 66 feet to your travel distance, with a total of 114 feet needed before you stop your car- almost double the stopping distance at only 10 MPH over!

The Morgan ambulance service in the County has a long history helping those in need. In 1943, a fire in a business with an apartment above injured Norma Williams. She and her husband were rescued from the fire, but Morgan had no ambulance service and no medical facility so she was taken to the old post office building on the corner of Commercial Street and 125 North. She waited until the next morning for an ambulance to arrive from Ogden. She was transported to the hospital, but later died.

It’s been three decades since my teenage years and I still have very vivid memories of my life growing up in the early 80s.  Of course, it was memorable when I got my driver’s license at 16.  It felt like a small step into the world of being an adult.  I was excited and “ready to roll,”  but it is difficult to “roll” when you don’t even have wheels, let alone the car and engine to go with them.
