The full Senate agreed recently to include Senator Mike Lee’s proposal to reform transportation funding in a package of amendments on the Highway Trust Fund. The Transportation Empowerment Act would allow states to keep the vast majority of revenue each raises through the gas tax, making it easier and more effective for communities to develop the transportation system they want and need.

U.S. Senators Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-1) announced that both the Senate and House have approved funding for the construction of a new maintenance hangar at Hill Air Force Base for the F-35 stealth fighter jet. Operational maintenance will be performed inside the hangar by the 388th Fighter Wing based at Hill.

Recently, Senator Mike Lee hosted a roundtable with Utah citizens, experts, government officials, and community activists on the growing crisis of immobility among the poor.  The event is a continuation of Sen. Lee’s “Let’s Talk” series he began in August, taking him around the state to hear directly from Utahns about the critical issues facing the state and the country.

Senator Mike Lee introduced a tax reform plan that would replaces much of today’s complex tax system with a new, simple structure that provides solutions for America’s ongoing opportunity crisis and ends the discrimination of parents in the tax code.  The Family Fairness and Opportunity Tax Reform Act is a pro-family, pro-growth plan that incentivizes social mobility, promotes middle-class economic security, and improves opportunity for all Americans.

As a very concerned citizen, I would like to share some totally disturbing facts about the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) which is quickly looming before us.  It will affect EVERYONE especially seniors, the disabled, babies born with defects, etc.  Most Americans are against it; only 12percent in a recent poll felt it would be a positive for Americans yet, the powers in Washington are set on giving us this beginning of socialized medicine.

On Tues. May 1, The Morgan Elementary School had visitors from The White House, even Senator Mike Lee and some of his office staff Larry Shepherd, and Boyd Matheson. They talked with Mr. Wolfe and presented him a gift for the school, of a flag that has flown over the United States Capitol on behalf of the students and faculty of the Morgan Schools. “Senator Lee was kind enough to surprise us and present the school with the flag that was flown over the capital,” said Mr. Wolfe.

Dan Liljenquist visited Morgan this week.  Liljenquist is running for the U.S. Senate seat opposing Orrin Hatch for the Republican nomination.  Liljenquist is hoping for a repeat of what happened to Bob Bennett when he was replaced at the Republican convention with Mike Lee in 2010.

At the finish line of the 2010 Morgan County Elections on Tuesday night, there were many incumbents that crossed the finish line ahead of their competition and will remain in their positions with the county.  Two of those incumbents that voters chose to return to office included Jann Farris as Morgan County’s Attorney who received 67% of the vote and Brenda Nelson as Morgan County Recorder with 58% of the vote.
