Is there anyone who hasn’t heard of Taggart’s Grill in Taggart?  The establishment has been serving lunch and dinner for nine years, and its fame has spread far and wide. It began as a gas station in the 1930s when two Taggart boys asked their uncle for some money to start up a station and some cabins.  It expanded to a place that sold burgers and fish bait.  At one point, a bobcat was kept on the porch. In the 1970s or early 80s, it burned down and Howard Taggart sold it to Elaine Stoddard, who owned it from 1996 to 2003. It is now owned by the Tuttle family and if you haven’t been there, you are missing a treat!

Lorin Jay Ezell passed away suddenly Oct. 2, 2012, in his home.  Lorin was born on Feb. 17, 1967, to Jack Ezell and Lola Jane Bennett Grower.  Lorin was raised in Porterville, Utah.  He loved going up in the mountains and building huts.

The Morgan 4th of July parade had a new twist to it this year.  All townships were invited to create a float and enter it into the parade.  The floats were judged and winners were announced during the evening entertainment at the football stadium.  First place, and winner of the Grand Prize trophy, went to Round Valley second place went to Peterson and third place went to Porterville.  Honorable Mentions were also awarded to Enterprise, Stoddard and Taggart.  The Morgan 4th committee appreciates all the time and effort that went into creating these floats and would like to thank all those who participated in this challenge. 

Even though summer is here for over 2,000 Morgan students, it only takes about two weeks before the kids start to ask, “What can I do today, mom?”  As educators we hope you will take time with your children to continue the process of learning as the summer progresses.   

Our sweet, loving wife and mother Fern Porter Carter, 91, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Family Tree Assisted Living Center in Morgan, Utah.  She was born in Porterville, Utah on April 6, 1921 to Franklin Sylvanus Porter and Emma Mae Durrant.  She attended school in Porterville and Morgan.

 World War II Veterans from Morgan County were honored in a recent Eagle Scout project completed by Trevor Slate of Milton.  Slate raised money to place markers on the graves of Norris Andrew Nelson, Sgt. Henry Burton Nelson, P.F.C. Thomas Henry Giles, Sgt. Chester R. Olsen, Seaman 2nd Class Karl Crittenden, P.F.C. Frank Jay Lacey and First Lieut. Craig Hannum.  He found it interesting that small farming communities like Milton, Richville, Porterville, Morgan City, Peterson and Mountain Green all lost so many of their sons and daughters, creating hardship on families, neighbors and the entire community.  Many veterans returned wounded and shell-shocked carrying unimaginable, horrible images for the remainder of their lives.

Ralph Goodman Warner was one of the sons of William G. and Minnie Warner (who were one of the first settlers of Mountain Green). Ralph Goodman Warner went to school in Mountain Green.  After living several places and working as a watchman for the Union Pacific, he purchased the family farm in 1919. He married Catherine Freestone “the girl of his dreams” who was from Porterville. 

Elder Brock Rigby Wilson has returned home from serving in the Arizona Tucson Mission.

Grant and Marilee Wadman were found dead in their Porterville home at 390 West Hardscrabble in Porterville.  The Sheriff's office was notified by family members after they had not been able to contact the couple for approximately a week.

Graduation Day! November 6, 2011, Vera Bell Phillips Carter completed her courses of study, passed all her final tests, and graduated with honors.

  Abbott and Nancy Mikesell of Morgan will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, Wednesday, November 2. They will be honored at a private family dinner.

Clay and Kelly S. Carter of Porterville are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter Angela Shae Carter to Christopher Brian Currie son of Brian and Heidi Currie of Syracuse and Kent and Kent ad Denise Nelson of Bountiful. On Friday, July 27, 2011 at the Morgan City Park. The ceremony is at 4:00pm with a reception to follow from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Due to any possible oversight friends and well-wishers are invited to attend and celebrate with the bride and groom at any time that evening. All are welcome.

Dorothy Louise (Phillips) Bennett (91) passed away 13 May 2011 in Sandy, Utah and was transported back to Sandpoint, Bonner, Idaho, her home for 60 years.

Paul and Vanna Carter celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently with their family in Park City, Utah. Each of their children and spouses along with all grandchildren and great grandchildren were able to attend the weekend of fun with the exception of two grandsons serving LDS missions and a deceased great-granddaughter. The group were able to watch the U.S. Olympic Aerial Freestyle Show at Olympic Park as well as other daytime activities such as riding the alpine coaster, frisbee golf at the top of the ski runs, and a family dinner hosted by their children at the Park City Grill.

A lively discussion was held at council meeting surrounding proposed actions to mitigate flooding.  After a meeting with County Emergency Manager, Terry Turner, and Weber Basin Water a number of individuals including county council members Kilmer and Kippen and Council Chairman Kelley met with state officials and representatives of the Army Corp. of Engineers to determine next steps.

The Morgan Utah Stake will hold its semi-annual stake conference on Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13, 2011.  
The meetings will be held in the Morgan Utah Stake Center at 355 North 700 East, Morgan, at the Rock Chapel at 10 W. Young Street, Morgan, and at the Porterville Chapel on South Morgan Valley Drive as listed below.  
Speakers for the priesthood leadership, adult, and general sessions will come from the presiding authority, stake presidency, and membership of the stake.  Elder Donald J. Keyes of the Seventy will be presiding at this conference.

A Community Christmas Celebration, which is being sponsored by the Morgan Lions Club, will be held Saturday, December 20.  A giant Christmas tree will be erected on the Union Pacific lawn through the kindness of the Union Pacific, and lighted for the entire Christmas holidays.

Dale and Pat Wilson will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, November 13, 2010 with an  open house at the Porterville  LDS Church from 4-6 p.m.  They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 11, 1960.

Robert Kilmer is a teacher at Morgan High School.  He came to Morgan fifteen years ago to teach and to live in the beautiful rural environment that is Morgan County.  He currently teaches welding and machine tools, and is the CTE (Career Technology Education) director at Morgan High School.

Residents throughout the county gathered at Kent Smith Park in Mountain Green to join in the festivities celebrating the arrival of pioneers to Utah. The celebration has become an annual tradition and includes activities for the whole family.
Kenneth Thomas Adams, 90 of Porterville, passed away on July 27, 2005.
