Community Spotlight: Dee & Connie Kippen

Connie Kippen can’t say enough about her family.  “My kids and grandkids-that is the number one thing in my life,” Connie said and then minutes later on another topic she continued, “My kids bring me the most excitement and most joy.”  Any topic seemed to relate back to her children and her love for them.

Talented artists contribute to fair exhibits

Each year Morgan County residents look forward to the first week in August. It is the time to showcase their talents, enjoy good food, and be entertained, all at the Morgan County Fair. Adults and children alike work all year getting their various projects ready, whether it is hand-stitching quilts, weeding gardens or capturing the beauty of the world behind their camera lens. Many solely come to see the handi-work of others.

MGE 5th graders make a character quilt

Inspired by Sam Johnson and the Blue Ribbon Quilt by Lisa Campbell Ernst, Mrs. Sheridan encouraged students in Mrs. Yorgason’s class to create a “quilt square” based on a character trait each student would like to acquire.

Fair Memories - Quilts Provide Lasting Memories

What are the memories that you have of the fair?  How about the smell of burgers or cotton candy?  How about the many animals and watching the kids show their 4-H projects?  What about all the exhibits in the exhibit hall?  What a showcase of talent! For many years, people of the county have entered their treasures into the county fair.

Porter Wins DUP Quilt

Anna Porter, on the left, receiving the Daughters of the Utah Pioneer (DUP) quilt from Melanie Lane, Mountain View Camp Captain, who made the quilt.
Porter won the quilt from a drawing she entered to benefit the maintenance of the DUP museum and cabin located just north east of the court house.

Quilting for a Cause

There are several things that I remember about visiting my Grandma Frances when I was young; Grandma was petite, standing only about 4’6” short and living alone in her spacious farmhouse.  She was small but very active and just a bit feisty if one chose to disagree with her or tease her about something.
