In the spirit of the holiday season, eight amateur radio (ham) operators found a way to bring some joy to disadvantaged and shut-in children of all ages.  Thanks to the world-wide range of amateur radio equipment, it’s possible for hams to communicate with other hams almost anywhere on earth, including Santa Claus at the North Pole.  Thus was born the North Pole Network (NPN) which purports to use special satellite links to allow kids to talk one-on-one with the jolly old elf himself.

Drifting snow added to the ambiance as the community gathered around to count down the lighting of the Christmas tree in the center of Commercial Street at the end of the fourth annual Ol’ Time Christmas celebration on Saturday, Dec. 7.  The city street looked like a scene right out of a Hallmark Christmas movie where neighbors, friends and family gather around to celebrate together.

“I felt like it was one of those small towns off of an old Christmas movie,” Sunni Heywood said of last weekend’s Ol’ Time Christmas celebration on Commercial Street.   While our beloved Front Street has actually been the scene of several movie sets, our Christmas celebration was better than any script.  It brought together friends and family to enjoy the season together.  We are lucky to live in one of the places people dream about.

When I think of Christmas’s past I’m reminded of the simple and wonderful Christmas’s while still living at home in Morgan.

Saturday, Dec. 3 Commercial Street was bustling with great holiday excitement.  The road was barricaded to allow all the citizens of Morgan to join in happy celebration.  This second annual Ol’ Time Christmas built on a successful run last year and brought residents together.  There were various activities to appeal to all who attended.

“All Aboard!” The conductor shouted as all of us boarded onto the magical train that would take us to the North Pole.  The Heber Valley Rail station was all decked out with holiday lights, and friendly staff that made you feel as if you were in elf wonderland. This is the place where our holidays began this year. Just being at the quaint station with all the holiday decker and the excitement of everyone who was going to be on the train with us, was enough to make me a believer in Santa Clause.
