Marjorie Rollins Rose Adams slipped into eternity March 16, 2014 in Bountiful UT at the age of 90.  She was born February 19, 1924 to Zina Pearl Bybee and Oscar Whitaker Rollins as the 8th child of 12 in the ‘big house’ at the Rollins Ranch in Mtn Green, Morgan County, Utah.

The Morgan Indoor Track and Field Club competed at its second event of the season last Friday and Saturday at Weber State University. Although the club is only in its first official year, these young Morgan athletes are proving that they warrant attention and respect even among the bigger schools in the 4A and 5A divisions.

Becky was born in Ogden, Utah, at the old McKay-Dee Hospital on June 29.  She is the youngest of seven children (four sisters, two brothers) and was raised on a dairy farm in Henefer, Utah, where she milked cows, fed calves, rode horses, rolled and hauled bales of hay, caught poly-wogs, played with baby mice and lived outside everyday making mud pies, and playing with animals and cousins.  Her closest sister is six years older than she and there is a 20-year difference between Becky and her oldest sister.  She was an aunt two times before she was born and her nearest neighbors were five miles away.  She loved the open spaces and the hard work ethic that was instilled in her by her family and being able to grow up on a farm.

Not many people can lay claim to babysitting a mountain lion for two weeks or keeping a mouse farm in their laundry room to feed injured raptors.  Don Paul expounded on the time he wrestled the six-month-old mountain lion into the bathroom to wash it off. He said it was a real challenge and the bathroom was a mess afterward.

We help students get excited about science through an after-school program that teaches students to think for themselves and to solve problems in science.  The students do a variety of activities from November to March. We prepare students in various categories so that we can compete against other schools throughout the state. March has been a great month for all students interested in science. We have just attended our first Regional Science Olympiad at Westminster College. Our second regional will be held on March 23rd at Weber State University and State will be in April at the U of U. Any students in the middle school are able to participate.

William Dee Brown, 53, died July 28, 2012 at McKay Dee Hospital of complications of cancer. Bill was born July 11, 1959, in Logan, Utah, the son of Maurell Dee and Betty Jean Marz Brown. He was raised in Morgan, Utah. He graduated from Morgan High School and attended Snow College and Weber State University. Bill married Gerri Lynne Giles on June 26, 1981 in the Logan Temple.

Earl and Carole McCain will celebrate 50 years of marriage on June 2, 2012.  Earl was born at his parents’ farm home near Tecumseh, Neb., where he graduated from high school before attending the Nebraska State Teachers College in Peru.  Carole was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, and was raised in Idaho, Oklahoma, and Oregon before her family relocated to Greeley, Colo., where she graduated from high school and entered Colorado State College.

Megan Stapley, a 2012 graduate of Morgan High School FFA (Future Farmers of America), has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by Barber Brothers Ford and Ford Motor Company.  Stapley’s parents are Kurt Stapley and Maggee Stapley of Morgan.  Stapley plans to study at Weber State University.

Utah Humanities Council is funding four book discussions at the Morgan County Library this fall.  Modeled on a similar, but year long, book discussions in Brigham City, the Mountain Green Ward book club has applied for and received a grant from UHC to help fund this project.

Barbara Anderson has been at the heart of the Weber State University Morgan Center since the office opened in the summer of 2001.  She has seen incredible growth in the classes and services offered during the time she has been director. She is retiring from her position as the Director of the WSU Morgan Center and as an employee of Weber State University this spring after 11 years.  Pam Carter will be the new director of the center.

The graduating class of 2012 will see the end of a long-standing tradition at Morgan High School.  The class presidency requested that the graduation ceremony be moved from the Morgan High School Auditorium to Weber State University due to the growing graduating class size and limited space at the high school.

Sonia Pentz  of Morgan walked across the stage at Weber State University with high honors.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. She graduated on December 9, 2011.  It was a family effort, and not only did Sonia get awarded with her Diploma, but her children and husband also received an honorary diploma.

Today we said a tearful goodbye to Thane Park Rogers, an amazing father, grandfather, great grandpa and brother, after a valiant battle with cancer. Thane was born in Peterson, Utah on June 7, 1924, in his family’s home, to Thomas Park and Verda Hulet Rogers.

Floyd and Charlotte Widdison have lived in Mountain Green for 40 years.  They actually met in Morgan over 45 years ago when Charlotte taught elementary school and had Floyd’s younger brother in her third grade class.  She also taught mutual in Morgan and had his 2 younger sisters in her class.  Both the sisters and the brother kept telling Floyd what a nice teacher they had.

The Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Avenue, Ogden will exhibit the recent works of local artist, David W. Jackson of Mt. Green in the Main Gallery, November 4-29. The Carriage House Gallery will feature local artists with an Artist Invitational/Holiday Boutique exhibit through December. An opening reception for the Jackson exhibit and an evening of holiday shopping in the Carriage House Gallery is planned for Friday, November 4, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Breshears is the new English teacher in the Morgan School District this year. She teaches three tenth grade English classes at the high school in the mornings and two seventh grade English classes at the middle school in the afternoon. Mrs. Breshears graduated from our very own Morgan High School and went on to Weber State University afterwards. She put her degree on hold for a while to start a family but went back to school three years ago and received her bachelor’s degree from Weber State majoring in English Teaching with a Psychology Teaching minor.

October has been selected as National School Principals Month.  The primary purpose for this designation is to recognize and honor the outstanding work of public school principals.  In Morgan we have the privilege of having six outstanding leaders directing our schools.  These individuals each portray unique leadership skills that when combined add enormous strength to the quality of our schools and the academic climate within those schools.

At the St. George Marathon, on October 1st, Rosy Lee, Morgan High School Cross Country/Track Coach finished first in the Women’s Division with the winning time: 2:43:59 (2 hrs,43 mins,59 secs), beating her previous record from 1999 of time: 2:44:52 by 53 seconds.

Pat Stephen,  a former Morgan High School art teacher is hosting an open art studio sale on October 6th, 7th, and 8th.  Pat graduated from Weber State University as an outstanding art student and also outstanding woman artist at WSU in 1983. She has exhibited her work in Salt Lake City, Brigham City, Ogden City, and Weber State College.

Chris Deitsch is in the business of teaching high school students business.  He is teaching classes ranging from Computer Technology, to Business Communication.  Mr. Deitsch’s favorite class he took during his own days in High School was Sports Marketing, and he is excited to be offering this class to students 3rd trimester.  Mr. Deitsch graduated from Clearfield High School in 2006, and from Weber State University in 2011.  The best way to get on Mr. Deitsch’s good side is to work hard and show others respect.  On the other hand, not paying attention or being disrespectful, and lack of effort are Mr. Deitsch’s least favorite traits.

Ten years ago when the Morgan School District gave the temporary use of one of its buildings to have a Weber State University  information center in Morgan, no one could foresee the progress the center has made today. Barbara Anderson who has worked at the center from the time of opening, has seen this higher education learning center grow from an information center, to a testing center, to now a place where students can learn by taking classes via video conferencing (IVC).  Through video conferencing students can interact with the course instructor teaching from a distant campus.

The Morgan Conservation District presented Morgan High School graduate, Ethan Porter, a $500 scholarship. Porter plans to attend Weber State University in the fall of 2011 and work towards a degree in Pre-Veterinarian Medicine. With Porter’s extensive background in FFA, as well as his experiences with Utah Cattleman’s Association and American Angus Association, he is a well-qualified recipient, with a promising future. The District’s annual scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student who intends to pursue a career in agriculture, natural resources or a related field.

Wednesday evening, the Morgan Board of Education approved a resolution to employ Timothy Wolff as the new principal of Morgan Elementary School.  Wolff graduated from Weber State University with a BS in Elementary Education in 2001.  He has also earned a Master’s Degree in administration from the University of Houston.  Following graduation he was employed as a teacher in the Fort Bend Independent School District, a suburb of Houston.

Jann Farris is the County Attorney for Morgan County.  His current term ends this year, and he is running for his second term as Morgan County Attorney.  Attorney Al Lundgren, who is currently serving on the Morgan County Council, is running against him.

Jann Farris is the County Attorney for Morgan County.  His current term ends this year, and he is running for his second term as Morgan County Attorney.  Attorney Al Lundgren, who is currently serving on the Morgan County Council, is running against him.

Jeremy Barker is a candidate for the County Council at large B seat.  Barker is running against Ned Mecham.  
Barker’s mother is from France and he is a native French speaker.  His father is from Bountiful. Barker was born in Centerville, the oldest of five children,  and grew up in that area.  He graduated from Viewmont High School in 1993.  He and his wife Sharon have two children, a boy and a girl, and one on the way.

    Morgan- Wade T. Murdock has been selected as the new Morgan High School Principal.  Murdock’s official appointment will occur at a Special Board of Education meeting scheduled for July 13, 2010 at 3:30 P.M. in the district office.  The Morgan Board of Education received input from a screening committee comprised of parents, educators, and support staff prior to reaching their decision.
