What started as one mom wanting to spend extra time with her two youngest daughters quickly blossomed into something benefitting many families in our community. Last spring Natalie Tibbitts decided she wanted to share her love of ballet, something she grew up participating in, with her two young daughters-Emma (9) and Abbie (7). Wanting to find a couple of other children to participate she put the word out and soon many other parents sharing her passion signed their daughters up. From this early beginning teaching ballet to her two young daughters, Natalie now heads up the Morgan Valley Ballet Company (MVBC) featuring four different classes and almost 50 young dancers, ages 3 to 11.

For those reasons there are continual discussions with school board, county and city governments, and Morgan Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC), including more extensive and detailed surveys and community forums such as Envision Morgan (EM).

The summer of 1952 Mary Ellen was dating a local boy who was excited to have his older cousin come visit.   The two 20 year olds came up with plans for Harold who was 24 and on leave from the United States Air force.  They wanted to go on a couple of double dates, but the only available girl was only 16 so they decided to have Mary Ellen go out with Harold and the other two would go out together.  The foursome went to a dance at Lagoon, and two weeks to the day later Mary Ellen and Harold were married! The rest was history…

Dr. Vern Kilbourn is a long time resident of Morgan and Morgan’s first Chiropractor. He was the first Chiropractor to ever be issued a business liscence in Morgan County. He is a 2nd generation chiropractor in his family, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Ozias (nicknamed “Banz”) to the community. His grandfather who was a graduate of Palmer Chiropractic School in Davenport Iowa, had finished his graduate degree, but was not allowed to practice because he didn’t have a high school diploma, and the state required a high school diploma to practice, yet he already received his doctorate degree. His grandfather was not allowed to be “grandfathered” into the practice, and not allowed to charge for his services, even after he had obtained a doctorate degree. His grandfather practiced for free in the community and offered many hours of unpaid service to help others.
