County announces plans to fill council vacancy

Following the untimely death of Morgan County Councilman Don Mathews, the county is seeking to fill his vacancy representing District 5 in the North Morgan area.

Morgan County Established (150 years)

In January 1862 An act of the Utah Territorial Legislative Assembly established/defined the boundary of Morgan County.  Morgan County was blessed with an abundance of natural resources.  The acreage also became an essential piece of real estate for services making their route to the west coast.   These included the telegraph, railroad and future utilities that would eventually traverse Weber Canyon.

United States research is interesting.  It can be some of the most challenging research that can be undertaken.  Even up to the present the United States does not have a federal registry for births and marriages.  The social security death index is probably the closest thing we have to a national death index.

A Culture of Service - Stacy Lafitte - County Clerk

Stacy Lafitte is the clerk/auditor for Morgan County.  Lafitte was born and raised in Morgan and with the exception of one year attending Utah State University, has lived here in the county.  She grew up in a small family of her parents and one younger brother.

Benjamin F. Smith,84, one of the original Utah pioneers, and one of the early settlers of Morgan County passed peacefully away at his residence in Morgan early Wednesday morning.

Benjamin F. Smith,84, one of the original Utah pioneers, and one of the early settlers of Morgan County passed peacefully away at his residence in Morgan early Wednesday morning. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. J. H. Dickson of Morgan; Mrs. William Ovard of Rexburg Idaho, and Frank Charles, William, Walter and Archie Smith all of Morgan.

New Postmaster in Morgan

After the county’s previous postmaster accepted a position in Hooper, Morgan was left without a postmaster for a few months. Dave Schroeder has now filled this vacancy and is the new postmaster for Morgan County

New Council Member Don Matthews

    Morgan County officially has a new council member as of 9:00 am Monday morning.  Don Matthews was sworn in as the replacement for David Gardiner for District Five by Stacy Lafitte, county clerk.  Gardiner recently resigned from the position when he moved out of the county.
