The Morgan School District brought in consultants to inform them how to get their tax levy approved.  They are certainly following the plan developed and strongly advised by Rich County and that is to bombard and propagandize the public with “it is all for the students, the students will suffer and be deprived unless we have more money.” Even one of our school board members has stated that the district may have to declare “bankruptcy” unless the levy is passed.  It appears to me that the district has learned very well from our present national political organizations and that perhaps even Obama could  probably pick up a few pointers from the school district and the school board.

 
I would love to say thank you for your thoughts, kind words, your flowers, your food, your calls and visits and your friendship that has been shown to me during my illness. I am not use to being ill, but with all of the kindness that has been given to me, it makes me again realize how wonderful people are in Morgan. Thank you again for everything. ShaRon Nelson

The Bert Wilkinson family would sincerely like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time. We appreciated the food, visits, cards, flowers, attendance at the viewing and the funeral and the many stories we were told about Dad that we hadn’t heard before. 

The family of Daniel J. Baird would like to extend our deep gratitude and appreciation to this community for the many acts of kindness and love shown to our family during the time of our loss.  Thank you for the flowers, meals, cards, visits, phone calls and for the love and support shown to us during this difficult time.

Words cannot begin to express the gratitude we feel for all the love and support shown to our family during the passing of our dear mom. For the cards, food and flowers from neighbors and friends, we are truly grateful. 

Thank you to everyone who came to visit me from Morgan and Coalville as well as serenading me with carols, which was a first for me.

Next Tuesday, Nov. 6 we will have the privilege of casting our vote for the next President of the United States of America.   For our government to be Of the People, By the People, and For the People we must exercise our right to vote!

The family of Marnie Stark would like to thank the community for the outpouring of love and heartfelt support we have received.  Words cannot express the support we have had from the community. The amount of loving gestures have been crazy.  They have come from friends, family and even people we didn’t know.  We would not have made it through this without all this love.  The family would like to thank the Morgan 6th Ward Relief Society, Walker Mortuary and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.  We rest easier knowing our little butterfly is free to fly.

Thank you seems so inadequate to express our appreciation for the acts of kindness, large and small, that we have received. 

Oliver J Archibald was born Aug. 31, 2012. He would like to thank all the wonderful people that prayed and were concerned for him. 

I would like to thank everyone who helped with the 2012 Morgan County Fair.  It would not have been possible without all of the people who donated their time to ensure the fair was a success.  I greatly appreciate all the support and dedication of the fairboard members and committees.  

Jean and I were excited to have made plans to see, eat, watch the families and just have a wonderful time at this year’s Morgan County Fair.  We were greeted with a smile at the east gate, and were directed to the disabled parking.  It was still pretty far to walk, but luckily we had our canes.

In today’s world of hustle and bustle, I was reminded of why I cherish my small town roots. In small towns, even still today, integrity, humanity, kindness and sympathy are still a way of life for people in small towns. One member of your small town of Morgan, Utah, proved that to us. 

Thank you Sherrie Shafer, your cheery encouragement of the Jr. Livestock participants year after year as they show, judge and sell their animals is great. Keep on cheering.

After attending the grand opening celebration for the new Riverside Park splash pad, I am bursting with pride.  Many people don’t know what a huge undertaking this really was, it was a true labor of love and  the funds used for this project were raised almost entirely by the local community.  

We want to thank all who came out and supported and/or made donations for our 5th annual Marie McQuiddy Daley Softball Tournament! Thank you to all the high school volleyball team girls for keeping score and donating all their time for this great cause, you are awesome girls!

Regarding Mr. Hornes letter to the editor that was published in the June 1 edition of The Morgan County News, I would first suggest that there are about 6.6 million Americans that would take great offense to your comparing of anything going on in the U.S. to the holocaust and the mass murder of 6 million people in WWII.

We would like to thank the Morgan community for all the calls, visits and services offered while Lynn was sick and after his passing.  We have been overwhelmed by the amount of love and support offered to our family during this time.  We thank you all.  We are so grateful to be members of this wonderful community.

Thank you to everyone that donated books for my Eagle Scout project. I collected over 1,100 books and all of them were put to use. The elementary students will have a blast reading them. Thanks again for all of your wonderful help. 

Interesting to read the Standard-Examiner’s interview with Morgan Fire Chief Dave Rich, about the Morgan grass fire portends, meaning an indication or omen of something about to happen, something momentous! 

Any damage to your vehicle from I-84 road work lately? I have... gravel-caused rock chips from sloppy patch work on Jan. 30. 

It is Caucus time!!  Which means it is also time for the bi-annual criticism of Utah’s political system.  Many voices are saying it is time to move from the current caucus system to a direct primary system.  If you are questioning the current system, take this opportunity to participate and closely observe the process.  You might change your mind.  I did. 

I enjoy reading the Morgan County News each week and keeping up to date with friends in the Valley. One of the sections I delight in checking is the Word of the Week, and I find the “Word” for the week, because I usually read the entire issue of the paper.

My name is Jacob Mecham, I am a scout writing this letter for reasons of passing off a merit badge. In this requirement I am advised to write a letter to a newspaper or magazine. I have decided to write this letter concerning the Morgan High School Graduation. 

“Thank You” family, friends, and neighbors for all of the love, support and kindness shown to our family at the passing of our Husband, Father, Grand-father, and Great-grandfather; Dale Thurston. 

Our family is so touched by the thoughtfulness of your many acts of service in our behalf at the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. The many cards, visits, meals, and flowers are so appreciated. It is great to live in a community that is so kind and loving.

The family of Floyd Martin gratefully acknowledge the caring, condolences and kindnesses extended at the time of his death. 

It is often said that watching or reading the news of the day can be a depressing experience because the majority of it is negative.  The Morgan County News is usually an exception to this perception of the media.  For the most part, the pages of this newspaper are filled with positive stories about the events occurring in the county; celebrations of birthdays, anniversaries, academic and athletic achievements, and many reports of people doing good and bettering the community.

The greatest of teacher said, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”  A perfect admonition, but have you ever been the one who has been cursed?  Do you even know those which despitefully use you and persecute you?  Thanks to the editor, Don Anderson and the Morgan County News, Josie Foster does; and thanks to Don, WE are the enemy!

We would like to thank all our family, friends, co-workers and community members who helped, supported and gave words of encouragement when our brother, Doug got sick in Mexico.

The family of Vera Carter would like to thank the many people in this community for their kindness at the passing of our Mother. We appreciate your love and concern. We send a special thank you for the loving care she received from those at the Family Tree, and Alpine Hospice, our friends and families, her Home Teachers and Visiting Teachers and for the compassionate service given by the Morgan 6th Ward and Morgan 1st Ward.

I am thankful for the opportunity we have to think of the good and positive aspects of our community and tell each other, by means of this newspaper. We all know some wonderful people that are in the Morgan area and one of my favorite people is Larry Turner. He is quite often standing by his bike and waving all that pass by. No matter what kind of day we are having, a wave from Larry with his big smile always makes things better.

Dear Editor:

A light was on Saturday night on the otherwise dark Commercial Street.  My husband and I rubber-necked half way to State. “What was that?!”

A BIG THANK YOU to all of you who were such a big help when we had the misfortune of having a trench cave in. Our hero is Mike Evans for his quick action of getting my head and chest uncovered so I could breath again. Also a BIG THANK YOU to the Morgan EMT’s who were so fast and professional in all they did to help me.

We would like to thank the many friends and neighbors who spent their Saturday morning helping cut, split and stack our winter’s supply of wood. Your service lifted a tremendous burden from our minds as well as our family. A special thank you to Richard Wiscombe for coordinating. Without you this would have never taken place. Thank you to those who have brought wood to our home. Thank you to all! We love and appreciate each one of you.

My name is Clyde Criddle. I have very fond memories of Como Springs, in fact very good ones. I worked for the Heiners for a few years mostly as a pin setter in the bowling alley and other jobs as needed. 

I want to personally thank the crew and cast of “Annie” for an outstanding production.  Each member played an important role in the success of the event.  I especially extend appreciation to the parents and community for their attendance and support.  It is my hope that this is just the beginning of an annual event that brings the schools and citizens together at the beginning of each school year celebrating local talent and raising funds for a worthwhile cause.

We were all so excited - we couldn’t wait to see just how fun this one would be.

I have a few comments about the front page article about the Morgan County School District Transportation Department being over budget.  We know the main reason for this cost overage is due to fuel cost for an ever growing school system.  The school district is concerned with the future needs of a new school or even two new schools and remodeling cost.  They don’t have the money.  The school district talks about increasing school fees for students.  This school fee idea will only create a few thousand dollars which is nowhere close to the amount necessary to keep up with the cost of education.   I applaud the school district for not asking for a new Morgan County School District Office and Administration building.  They are working out of a small office in front of the Morgan Elementary School.  Good for them.

You didn’t see me; attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief.

I saw you; roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by

You didn’t see me; driving behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window.

I saw you; frown at me when I smiled at your children. You didn’t see me; when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless.

I saw you; stare at my long hair. You didn’t see me; and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love.

I saw you; roll your eyes at our leather coats and gloves. You didn’t see me; and my brothers donate our old coats and gloves to those that had none.

I saw you; look in fright at my tattoos.

You didn’t see me; cry as my children were born and having their name tattooed on my skin and in my heart.

I saw you; change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere.

You didn’t see me; going home to be with my family.

I saw you; complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be.

You didn’t see me; when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane.

I saw you; yelling at your kids in the car.

You didn’t see me; pat my child’s hands knowing he was safe behind me.

I saw you; reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road.

You didn’t see me; squeeze my wife’s leg when she told me to take the next turn.

I saw you; race down the road in the rain.

You didn’t see me; get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date.

I saw you; run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time.

You didn’t see me; trying to turn right.

I saw you; cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in.

You didn’t see me; leave the road.

I saw you; waiting impatiently for my friends to pass.

You didn’t see me; I wasn’t there.

I saw you go home to your family.

You didn’t see me, because I died that day you cut me off.

To you I was just a biker, not a person with a family and friends.

You didn’t see me; and now they will never see me again.

Even if you don’t like us, respect our rights to ride what we choose and take a few extra seconds to be sure we are not in “your” way.

To make something like Operation Graduation a Success it needs help from everyone; parents, grandparents, community members, businesses and the Staff of Morgan High School. Everyone has helped to make it a success.  

Last week an editorial commentary was submitted labeling the Morgan County Airport as a “heavily subsidized” burden on the taxpayers, and a “ridiculous” use of funds for something used by a minority of the county residents.  While everyone is entitled to an opinion and has a right to voice it, a little more research and thought regarding the issues will often alter one’s point of view:

The family of Seth Harvey Schick wishes to express our sincere appreciation for the outpourning of love and support during his illness and passing. The expressions of sympathy and love will always be remembered and cherished. 

As Larry Hatch stated in his letter to the editor of March 25, the county political parties are holding their organizing conventions, beginning with the Republican Convention on April 9. 

To the young lady’s and young men of Morgan High basketball teams.  You did not win the state championships, but you are still number one, the greatest and most respectful young adults and it was great being able to watch you play.

Last weekend the Morgan High wrestling team travelled to Delta to compete in an important two-day multi-school tournament.  Unfortunately a couple of our Morgan wrestlers ended up in the hospital due to some fairly serious injuries.  I was at work when I received a call from Coach Allen that our son, Christian, had dislocated his elbow during a match and was on his way to the local hospital.  My wife jumped in the car to make the three hour drive to Delta.

We want to tell you how much we appreciate your thoughtfulness to us with the passing of our sweet daughter-in-law Sandy Wilson.
The visits, flowers, phone calls, cards, words of condolences to us have been so beneficial and comforting at this sad time.

When I was younger it was not unusual to hear someone on the playground assert, “It’s a free country!” This was usually done when they were doing something that was not quite right, but they wanted to do it anyway. As I have grown older I have discovered that there is often a misperception of the freedoms we enjoy.

I want to take a moment to thank all the Single Adults for your support of the activities that we are trying to establish in the valley and in both LDS Stakes. Also a thank you to The Morgan County News for posting events, and helping us round up our Single Adults.
We have grown in numbers each event, with new people coming all the time. We are having a lot of fun together, getting to know others and making new friends in the valley, that are in the same situations.

 My husband and I did our due diligence in researching the qualifications, etc in reference to Clark, Hatch and Kilmer.  In the primary we chose Clark because we felt that she would serve the County fairly and honestly.

We would like to Thank the Morgan High School Volleyball Team, Coach Liz Wiscombe and her Staff for donating the proceeds they earned at PINK NIGHT to the American Cancer Society in Memory of our Daughter  Marie McQuiddy Daley.

I have lived in Mountain Green for twenty years, and periodically have written letters to the Editor. This will be another occasion in which I will do this again, because we will have a chance to vote for a particular candidate of our choice. However, that isn't true for the Morgan County citizens today. We had two candidates running for sheriff, but one decided to withdraw from the candidacy.

I think that the county council should keep trying to get a public pool in Morgan. Kids and even adults enjoy being able to swim, and unless you are wealthy,  bathtubs normally aren’t big enough!

I have similar feelings as Dave Hansen, Republican Party Chairman for Utah; He expressed his excitement last Saturday at a Central Committee Meeting stating “I haven’t had this much fun in years”.  As I have become more actively involved in politics I would agree with Dave.  People are talking with each other.  Many are realizing their vote does matter and counts.  Your average voter this year is actually voting in favor of a candidate they like.  Our ballet in Morgan is filled with choices.

My name is Grey Gallagher, I live in Peterson, and I am writing you this letter to fulfill a requirement for my Communication merit badge for the Boy Scouts of America program.
One of the things I think that would make Morgan County a better place is a river walk. I would like to see it tie into the ogden river walk. It could start at the park in Morgan and go by Peterson, Mountain Green, then down the canyon.

Brad Richards' letter to the County Council, as printed in The Morgan County News on September 3 edition, voiced his concerns about the functioning of the Board of Appeals (BOA), and a recommendation for resolution.
