After a fairly easy win at Juan Diego High School last Thursday(Oct. 7th), the Lady Trojans headed for Highland High School on Friday to try to bring home another trophy. The team had three matches on Friday, going against first Tooele, then American Fork, and finally Park City. None of these matches were close and the girls headed into Saturday’s matches feeling pretty confident. The morning brought our first opponent in Stansbury High School. Their team is coached by one of Morgan’s Alumni Leah Rupp. They seem to be an up and coming team and Morgan enjoyed the match up. Following a break, it was time to take on Orem. They were ranked very high in the tournament and it was a great game. Before the Championship, we of course, had to come up against Snow Canyon. In this same tournament last year, the team had to beat them in two consecutive matches before they would accept defeat. Although the second game was close, Morgan came away with the victory and were bound for the Championship. This match proved to be worth the trip. Lehi took the first game in a close win of 22-25. Morgan rallied and battled back to take the second game 25-17. The third game, which seemed more like two, was charted to go to 15 with of cap of 17. However, when both teams were tied at 13, the captains were called over and the cap was removed leaving it indefinite. After battling back and forth, and having to win by two points, Morgan came away the champions with a score of 33-31 to take the trophy. It was some amazing volleyball and showed the kind of heart these girls have. Never giving up and proving that have what it takes to win. It was a great tournament. Next week is going to be a good prep week for the State tournament at the end of the month. The team will play Judge on Tuesday @ Judge, followed by PINK NIGHT @ home on Wednesday against Skyline, and the last region match up against Ben Lomond on Thursday. The annual game against Rich will be @ Rich on Saturday the 23rd and then its time to think about that State title. Come out and support the Lady Trojans and enjoy some great volleyball.
