Board Selects Construction Manager/General Contractor


After hours of investigation, deliberation and interviews the Morgan County Board of Education has selected Westland Construction, Inc. as the construction manager and general contractor for the upcoming building projects. The vote was unanimous by the board members present. Member Ken Durrant was not able to attend due to a recent accident from which he is still recovering. Westland was one of four firms under consideration. The firms included: Hogan Construction, Hughes Construction, and DWA Construction. This was a very difficult decision, remarked President Joey Skinner, all of these firms are very capable of producing a quality product and we appreciate their interest in our district. Westland headquarters are located in Orem, Utah with another office in St. George, Utah. The firm has built a number of schools as well as additions and remodels. They have built facilities for both industry and religious organizations. Chris Houghton, projector manager, will be meeting with district officials and an architectural team from Design West early next week to begin pre-construction plans for the P.E./activities center and the transportation facility. Both projects should break ground in early spring with completion dates set for mid-winter. When completed the P.E./activities center will encompass at least 38,000 square feet of usable space. A hard court area and a turf field will allow for a variety of activities ranging from running and exercising to soccer and tennis. The transportation facility will provide covered storage space for at least 30 buses with a three bay garage and office space.
