Anniversary – John C. and Arlene Follett Irwin


January 24 marked the 67th wedding anniversary of John C. and Arlene Follett Irwin of Morgan. They were married in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple in 1944. He served in the US Medical Corp of the Air Force for four years during World War II, in Blythe, CA, Walla Walla, WA., and later overseas in the 249th Medical Hospital in the Philippine Islands. Upon returning home, he resumed employment at the Devils Slide Cement Plant as a chemist. He worked there for 47 years, retiring in 1981. Arlene was a newspaper correspondent and later worked as food and women’s editor at the Standard Examiner. Both are graduates of Morgan High School. As members of the LDS Church, they have served in various ward and stake callings. He served an LDS mission in Germany for two and a half years when 19 years old. Together, they served missions in Croatia, Yugoslavia in 1981, and West Germany in 1990. John served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple for 18 years; and Arlene served for 15 years. He was recently honored for 50 years of service in the Morgan Lions Club. She is a member of the Morgan Culturettes Club. Their children are Suzanne (Richard) Middleton of North Ogden; John Richard (Kathy) Irwin of Riverdale; Becky (Rocky) Johnson of Green River, WY; Robert (Phyllis) Irwin of Lander, WY; and Janene (Mark) Walker of Morgan. They have 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. A celebratory family dinner was held in their honor with the greater part of the family in attendance.
