County approves pay for swift water team members

The county council autorized a budget of $6,000 to pay members of its Swift Water Rescue Team on Tuesday. The swift water rescue team was formed to manage an increasing number of incidents on rivers in the county. The individuals on this team are trained extensively to ensure the safety of those rescuing and being rescued in swift water situations. The county has purchased equipment, primarily from grants, to provide the team the items they need to operate safely. County Emergency Manger Terry Turner reported that there are more than 500 individuals on the water per day at the peak of the summer season in Morgan. The team is made up of a hasty response team of ten members and a larger team of approximately twenty members.
