Days later and coach Liz Wiscombe still cannot believe the outcome of the 3A State Volleyball match, We were expecting to win but not that easily, said Wiscombe about the sweep against Snow Canyon. Snow Canyons team had taken state for the last five years in the 4A class division and expected to do the same in 3A. To get to the finals Morgan defeated Carbon in three games and Dixie and Delta in four a piece. The rivalry between Carbon and Morgan is strong and we knew we had to play tough against them, said Wiscombe. Dixie has made it to the 4A finals the last six years in a row, we knew their expectations for a win would be high. Delta always plays hard, they had a good team this year, it was a good win for us. Getting past these matches enabled the team to set its sights on Snow Canyon, knowing they would be tough to beat. Led by seniors Bailey Farris, Ashlee Gallen, and Jaesee Dye, the Morgan volleyball team played with determination. I was very impressed with the composure our team had, said Wiscombe. They went out and totally dominated in every aspect of the game. Morgan was so focussed. The first two games were much the same with the lead changing back and forth, at one point Morgan got down five points but rallied back to a 17-13 lead. Wiscombe said They never got rattled, even when down five points, the girls stayed together as a team. Everybody did their job. Including the bench, whose cheering and constant encouragement helped the players on the court maintain their high level of play. Jaesee Dye, senior labero said, Our energy built off every single point. Every single one of us stepped on that court knowing we were gonna fight til the end. And that’s exactly what we did. Completely taking control of the third game Morgan played with even more intensity, Snow Canyon could not do anything to bring their team back into the match. Morgan dominated with a solid 25-13 win to end the tournament. Senior Bailey Farris led the team with 26 kills, five solo blocks, four digs, and four service aces. Her play was consistent and unstoppable for the Snow Canyon Warriors. Winning state last year was great, but this year we had some adversity, said Farris. We had a couple of bumps in the road. We weren’t favored to win the state game, but it never occurred to me that we would lose, … losing was never an option. Ashlee Gallen, senior setter, also played tough contributing 36 assists to the win. It was a great game, said Gallen. We took control from the start and knew we were going to win. It was was a great experience. With Snow Canyon being favored to win Morgan stepped up to the challenge, As a senior I didn’t want to have any regrets, said Farris. I played with all I had, as did my team. There was no better way to end the season. This years varsity team included Seniors- Bailey Farris, Ashlee Gallen, Jaesee Dye, Juniors-Cassidee Lish, Katie Peterson, Aspen Thomson, Amanda Porter, Rachel Kuns, Sophomores- Rashel Blazzard, Shaylie Duncan, Kristi Rhead, McKenzie Schenk, Casey Thomson, and Freshman Jessica Carter, with junior Rinon Robison as team manager. A special thanks: Coach Wiscombe would like to thank her assistant coaches Julia Fisher, Vicki Walker and Stephanie Stuart for the outstanding job they do. Wiscombe would also like to thank the fans, The community was phenomenal. It is neat to live in a community with such great support for our kids. It’s a privilege to be from Morgan. A big thanks to senior Swish Wiscombe, Swish has been an integral part of our team. He practiced against us helping to make us physically and mentally tough, said Wiscombe. Swish also told the players where to serve during the games, helping the team pick apart their opponents.
